I was there myself and although there was no proper filth (bar Whelo in fairness as I can slate my own countymen) there’s no match in the history of any sport that won’t escalate when you give silly yellows. Murphy gave yellows for fouls you would never see yellow’d by any top referee. There was 2 coddlers yellow’d for backchat at one stage which is absolute nonsense.
I found him fierce poor.

Can’t do much about it, the white shorts are perfect with it.
Went to Offaly Cork today. Pitch was poor and cut too tight which took from standard of it.
Offaly were missing one or two but were way off the standard they had in Nowlan Park 2 weeks ago. They looked like what they are. A few decent young lads, about 2 decent older lads and a lot of good club hurlers. I’m not sure they’re doing Sceeeney any favours playing him so young when he’s still so light. O’Leary annihalated him.
I was surprised how big Cork backs were. Rob Downey was the stand out player for me. I don’t see how Mellerick gets in at all. Their backs look fine to me. My dad (Corkman) was delighted with workrate of forwards.

After that you need forwards, that’s where the problems lie:
Hutchinson, Patrick Fitz, Hogan,
Monty? Stephen Bennett?
Mikey Kiely?
Can’t see that team winning much.
Downey, Joyce and Coleman are as good a half back line there is in the country.
Mellerick is probably more of a corner back but Cork seem to have plenty of options here with O Donoghue, O Leary and Eoin Downey. Cahalane will probably start FB in championship.
Tommy O Connell and Darragh Fitz midfield looks promising.
Then the fun begins trying to pick a forward line. And one that works well together. Connolly could be a serious option this year and Jack O Connor is looking sharp.
