Allianz National Hurling League 2024

They are in their fuck

That would be Carlow folk from the non-hurling end of the county. South Carlow where most of the hurling is would lean more towards Wexford than Kilkenny.

Watched the Wexford game there. Who’s the Dara/Daire/Darragh chap on the TG4 coverage?

Pretty encouraging stuff alright with a lot of the new players stepping up to the plate/mantle piece.

There’s plenty of fast & athletic types in the team now & they work hard as a unit, which compensates for a lack of strength & height. Although some of the more experienced players will bring that heft when/if they return to fitness.

Hard to tell from TV coverage but Waterford only seemed to push up on the Wexford puck out for part of first half & not at all in the second half. And with Chin & Jack O’Connor missing out today, there was an absence of viable long puck out targets so it played into our hands.

It allowed us to work the ball forward before hitting the full forward line. Richie Lawlor has great spring & timing for a fairly small fella & got on plenty of ball & Cian Byrne took his points really well. Thought Seamus Casey showed well again & took some nice scores.

The middle part of the field was very congested so it was tricky to figure out who was meant to be marking Barron & Lyons in the first half - they did a bit of damage - but they weren’t as influential after half time. Thought the Recks were good again, albeit Damien should have controlled that Niall Murphy pass with either his hurl or hand for the Waterford goal. He was otherwise very good in the second half. Good save by Fanning straight after our second goal too.

What you say tallies with my experiences. Sat beside two in ‘22 final - Tullow & Carlow Town - both roaring their heads off for KK. Lady I was beside last year was from Carlow side of Graiguenamanagh - wasn’t shouting for KK at all.

There is yet to be a kilkenny hurler that duignan wouldn’t go down on.

Tinnehinch is the Carlow side of Graigue once you go over the river. That’s St Mullins. Nearly all the best hurlers in Graigue over the years were from the Carlow side of town. Nick O’Donnell was the standout hurler from the Kilkenny side of Graigue and he went to Wexford.

Cian Byrnes father was on the 1996 All Ireland panel alright, but he would probably be better known for making an appearance on the all conquering TFK AFC astro team.

Getting to wear @Rocko’s famous No 6 green and white jersey was the achievement he was most proud of…probably.

Byrne and Casey are a great bit of stuff. Both got some great scores today. It’s in the forwards you’ve struggled in recent years so encouraging to see new lads who know where the posts are.

Yep. GAA pedigree alright. A Carley on his mam’s side so his late grandad & a load of uncles either hurled or played football or played both for Wexford.

He is indeed. You obviously remember Jims appearance for TFK AFC, to be able to make that connection.

He is, thought you got that from my earlier post. Cians brother Cillian turned 19 this year and started corner forward in last years u20 leinster final. Expect him to make it to county senior set up in the next couple of years too

Yep & with Westmeath relegated there’s a real chance we could go well in Leinster this year.

Do any of the @wexicans see Conor Mac starting for the team this year? Rory and Chin will slot back in, but the way we play now and the way Mac plays, i dont see him fitting in unless we go orhtodox 3 in the full forward line and 2 quick corners playing off him. But otherwise, 2 pacy inside men leaves mac as an odd one out.

I made reference to it earlier. I hurled with Jim in UCD.

Not sure what you mean by this, Millerick will start alongside Joyce/Downey.
