Years and years and years ago played a gig the same night as Ilenkus. Think they were only starting out but they were tight as fuck. Savage stuff.
Ah lovely.
White Pony is still as fresh as when I first heard it. What an album.
That’s a cracker. MJK puts in an excellent shift on that one. Been listening to Adrenaline, Around the Fur and White Pony a lot of late. Very noticeable progression from the stripped down rawness through to the layered effects-laden sound. Was lucky enough to see them 13 years ago at the first Download festival with Chi on bass. Awesome lineup. Ministry, Deftones, Marilyn Manson, and Iron Maiden in the headline slot.
It’s hard to believe these guys have lasted as long as they did. True metal pioneers…
Dillinger Escape Plan - Symptom of Terminal Illness
Saw them live in Limerick back around 2003ish. Your man swinging from the rafters at one stage. They played with The Icarus Line (who were hyped up at that time) and SHAT, which I think had a Dillinger member.
Headbangers. Unbridled violence at their shows…and all on the stage.
Think they went through a few different singers. The lad on the mic that night was making it his mission to piss off everyone (and it wasn’t a huge crowd) that was there. Good times.
That’s the lad alright. Security weren’t happy with him
Meshuggah - Born in Dissonance
cc. @anon7035031, I take it you’ve been listening to the new album. Verdict?
Hendrix playing Hey Joe on BBC 4 Now.
Sunshine of your Love now.
Strangely enough I haven’t heard it yet.
Have you dug into their catalog since White Pony? There really isn’t a dud among them, even though Saturday Night Wrist takes repeated listens to get into, and it has a few wobbles. Two solid measures of a bands greatness imo are having to really listen to their albums in their entirety, and how much their fans disagree over their best work. I think most would agree with White Pony as #1 but there’s strong arguments for Around the Fur, Deftones, Diamond Eyes, or Koi no yokan as #2 (personally, at the moment at least, I would give the nod to Kny as it has more songs than any of the other contenders on my Deftones playlist). This is one of their more melancholy numbers, but it’s absolutely gorgeous.
Deftones: Rosemary
Devin Townsend: Deadhead
Stick around for the last verse
I’ve dipped in and out, but lost interest with their direction because I was headed in a different direction myself. No more than radiohead, who I was out of touch with for a few years, I will dip in again with the deftones. They’re too good a band not to.
Any sign of Tool to release a few songs?
The new Tool album that’s been imminent since 2007? They’ve been embroiled in some fucking moronic lawsuit for almost a decade now that started out small and spiraled out of control. Spent millions on it, apparently over a bit of artwork. Reportedly its been settled and they are now concentrating on getting the album out.
I take it from your Deftones comment, you weren’t a shoegazing metalhead. Here’s a bit of lively shoegaze.
I almost posted this in the “faces you’d love to smack” thread for the lad with the glasses at the front.
Deafheaven: Dream House, live in Raleigh NC, 2013…
