There’s been very little uptake, apart from the odd contribution from @PhattPike, @KinvarasPassion and @Fagan_ODowd. Most sensible posters would lock the thread and commit this shitfest to the dungeon. However, this will not happen. Careful now, or I might start tagging you in posts. You might even accidentally listen to a metal song. Worse still, you might be a fucked-up Norwegian Black Metal fan waiting to happen.
As long as it’s heavy and made out of metal we’ll be here to appreciate it. It’s no weirder than Limerick people earnestly discussing Gaelic Football.
A two-piece band from Estonia: Like being hit by a woolly mammoth in the face:

Nice description - chuggy as fuck, and it’s in keeping with my new rule of not listening to any Estonian metal tracks that are shorter than 7 minutes
Suicidal on Sunday
Catchy as fuck.
For some reason, it made me instantly think of Mercyful Fate - and this one in particular, “Is that you, Melissa?”. What a tune…
About to read this, but before I do I should mention I saw Metallica played on a Ray Davies album. I like Ray’s music, no question, but ffs! Duets with Marianne Faithful. Playing with a Kink. These guys are off the metal roll-call.
It’s a belter of an album - an out-and-out classic. Still, Metallica are cunts. I wish it was Testament. Or Megadeth…Rust in Peace
Thanks for the heads-up all the same. Are you listening to any metal these days Fagan? I’ve been listening to a lot of Eastern European bands (Batushka’s album is phenomenal), but also a lot of punk. Rekindling my appreciation of early AFI and also NOFX.
I’m in a Krautrock phase at the moment. A pal of mine is trying hard to get me into Baroness, but I’m not in a metal mood at the minute.
Metallica, though they may be cunts, made outstanding music. And were just awesome live.
I’m not going to argue with that.
Offspring - Tehran
@Fagan_ODowd - considering Metallica was heavily influenced by punk, Offspring’s 1989 debut paid the tribute back to them. Hardcore punk, unquestionably, but there’s a real thrash feel to it.
@anon7035031 - little over a year before the gulf war kicked off in Aug 1990, this track by a bunch of California 20-something year olds made a fair attempt at predicting it.
I’d give Baroness a blast Fagan, to be a stereotypical fan I’d recommend the earlier stuff, Red Album and Blue Record are brilliant, heavy but plenty of melody in there as well. Rays On Pinion and Isak are daycent choons. The more recent albums I find very samey.
That’s not a bad suggestion. I’ve been listening to a lot of prog lately - some Australian bands are ripping the rule book up. Caligula’s Horse and Arcane being two that spring to mind. @Fitzy and @Chucks_Nwoko - can you keep an ear out on the local scene and report back?
