Another horrific accident in Donegal

Exhibit A of the ridiculous attitude to driving and speed in some border counties

I don’t think you are in any position to talk about ridiculous attitudes to driving.

I would imagine driving sober at 170km/h is more dangerous than driving drunk at 50km/h. I also don’t condone drink driving, it’s wrong. You are condoning driving at 170km/h in an 80km/h zone

You’d imagine wrong. The driver at 170kph is sober, the drunk driver is not.

You don’t condone drink driving yet you are a drink driver, what wonderful leadership from you.

I haven’t drunk drove in years, it’s very wrong. Do you still drive at over twice the speed limit regularly?

Mickey probably wrote him a character reference as a parting gift

Depends. I find the speed limiting of some roads ridiculous but I’d regularly hit 80-90mph on roads off the motorway, if I was in a rush I could hit the 100mph no bother I’d say.

There’s absolutely no comparison between drinking driving and speed at all. The vast majority of road users break speed limits. I see a stat that 38% of road deaths in Ireland are attributed to drink driving.

It’s too fast

Excessive speeding. 70 or 80kmph over the speed limit is ridiculous

Depends of the roads. Some roads have 50mph speed limits that are too much and other roads have 50mph speed limits which are way too low.

I’d have to drive the road first to know whether the speed limit is appropriate. There’ plenty of roads I have driven down south at 100kph where the speed limit should be far, far higher.

The speed limit isn’t subjective and 170kph is absolutely excessive on whatever road where there are other road users

I disagree.

Of course you do, it’s a Tyrone footballer.

If it was Neil Lennon youd be calling for him to get 10 year in maximum security

Nothing to do with it being a Tyrone footballer. I think speed limits are too low and should be a lot higher.

I also think the speed limits down south are crazy, bendy narrow back roads with no white lines, awful surfaces have the same speed limits as some good quality main roads between towns. It’s mental.

You don’t think 170kmph is excessive on a single carriageway?

Do ye have speed limits up North?

Not if it’s a well surfaced road with a good straight stretch and clear visibility, no.

Yes, I’ll make my own assessment as to what speed is suitable though.

Do they differ much from here in the South?
