Arcade fire.. greatest band this century?

Late auld trip back for you. They have some back catalogue. Much more of a “show” than their last concert in the point a few years ago, avant garde even. It was brilliant at times but on balance it was overdone. The big curved dome back screen around the stage was great but the spotlights in around around the stage and especially the fucking lasers at the front were way over the top and took away from it for me, they’re at their best when the focus is on the band and how much they put into it. Still a great show and a remarkable and unique band.

Also Win is an awful geek. He always curses in his brief chats to the audience as if that makes him rock and roll, noticed this each time I’ve seen them, “fuck it, life is short!”

A true test would be to do away with the “show” and just play the set.

This definitely the most ‘showy’ I have seen them. From my perspective in the nosebleeds and with a flake of expensive pints in me, it certainly didn’t diminish it for me. Their back catalogue is strong enough without the requirement for a light show. I loved the big disco ball effect. Interestingly it didn’t sell out last night. There was probably a couple of hundred seats empty.

Agreed. The last gig I was at (Suburbs tour) focused very much on the members of the band and the instruments they were playing.

Was yer man in Arcade Fire ever cancelled?

Nope, it all died down. They played Malahide Castle during the summer and got a good crowd.

My brother saw them in a smaller venue in London than usual this year I think they might be still a small bit cancelly.
What other acts now are at the dynamic pricing level I wonder besides Taylor, oasis and Coldplay. Will it start creeping in to smaller gigs?

For what? Groupies throwing themselves at him and running to the press later?

I was at that gig. Massive crowd there. Played the Funeral album in full. Miles better than any tripe Coldplay serve up.

I saw them in the Olympia around 2007. Was one of the best gigs I was ever at.

Have seen them 3 times, not too many bands can generate the energy they bring to the stage.
