has signed a new 5 year deal with Celtic! Smashing news.
Nice one.
Cāmon The Holy Goalie.
Superb news. Any idea on how much heāll be on?
No idea: itās now confirmed on Arturās own website.
Itās a deal until 2011 by the way which means itās a 3 and a half year contract presumably.
5.5m over the contract apparently Larry which makes him the highest paid player in Scotland.
I presume thereās a signing fee and some sort of loyalty bonus and Iām sure some of it is performance related so the 5.5m can only be an estimate but that works out at a shade over 30k a week.
Interview with Boruc today. Cracking mention of the Holy Goalie from the legend.
Canāt see it in work. What Holy Goalie reference does he make it?
There are 2 superb parts to the interview:
paraphrasingā¦
-
Interviewer chick: āRangers are on top of the league at the moment. Does this make things more difficult?ā
Artur: āIt doesnāt matter because weāll be there at the end of the season so itās not important.ā -
Artur: āI want to win the league and play in Champions League and thatās why I signed the contract. And I want to hear the Holy Goalie song again.ā
Utter, utter legend.
I canāt think of any other player in world football doing something like this!

Manās a stone cold fooking legend.
Utter legend.
Rumours in the press today that heāll be in trouble. Iād love to see them try and prosecute him. Then I hope they do the same to Kaka next time he has the misfortune to play in Scotland.
What a class act, that t-shirt was something else.
Strachan laughs off Boruc antics
Artur Boruc displays his t-shirt after Celticās 3-2 win
Celtic manager Gordon Strachan made light of Artur Borucās antics after he revealed a āGod bless the Popeā t-shirt after his sideās 3-2 win over Rangers.
The Poland international, dubbed the āHoly Goalieā by Celtic fans, took his goalkeeping jersey off to show the t-shirt with a picture of the late Pope John-Paul II and accompanying slogan.
āHeās not a bad lad, to be fair (the Pope),ā Strachan joked.
āIf it was āGod bless Myra Hindleyā, I might have a problem.ā
Strachan was reluctant to admit that his sideās second Old Firm victory in under a fortnight gives them the advantage in the Scottish Premier Leagueās title run-in.
āI canāt tell you how anyone else will react to it, it just makes us feel good about ourselves,ā he said.
"We were disappointed to lose the goals from set-plays but I enjoyed everything apart from that.
MY SPORT: DEBATE
Was his t-shirt bigoted? NO. was it sectarian? NO. So what is the problem?
Hamilton Bhoy
"They realised what they had done wrong in the first half and made up for it in the second half.
āWe have a satisfied dressing room and that is as good as you get here.ā
Gregory Campbell of the DUP thinks Artur needs to be censured over his t-shirt.
Funnily enough the global guardians of the game donāt have a problem with it:

Anyway, getting back to this clown Gregory:
Gregory Campbell MP has tabled a parliamentary motion regarding irresponsible actions by Glasgow Celtic goal-keeper Artur Boruc. The motion reads:
āThat this House expresses support for the good work undertaken in combating sectarianism by the Glasgow football clubs, Rangers and Celtic, but deeply regrets the actions of Celtic goalkeeper Artur Boruc who, at the end of the recent Old Firm game displayed a T-shirt with the words God bless the Pope on it; is saddened that this, the latest in a series of controversial gestures by the same player which have no place in football, has not brought censure from his club; and hopes that Celtic can recommence their opposition to actions that could serve to heighten tension between players as well as supporters.ā
Speaking today, Gregory Campbell said:
āA lot of hard work has been put in by both Rangers and Celtic in combating sectarianism at their matches. I note and salute the efforts made by both clubs in this regard. It is unfortunate however that one Celtic player, goal-keeper Artur Boruc has behaved in an irresponsible way that could serve to undermine the efforts made by both clubs over recent years. Some are trying to defend his actions by saying that this was a tribute by the player to a great religious leader from his homeland. There would have been an enormous outcry and sanctions imposed by Rangers FC and the Scottish football authorities if a Scottish based Rangers player had unveiled a T-shirt dedicated to a deceased religious leader from his own country, such as John Knox, the Scots Protestant reformer.
They would be entirely correct to take action against the player, particularly if the player in question had carried out provocative actions previously as the Celtic goalkeeper has done. To deliberately attempt to inflame Rangers fans by unveiling a t-shirt saying āGod Bless the Popeā is a careless and ill-considered way to behave in what was a potentially volatile game where crowd violence has erupted in the past. Any actions like these are totally irrelevant to football and should have no place in the game. Glasgow Celtic need to take steps now so that Artur Borucās antics are not repeated."
His cracking display tonight wonāt have done Celticās chances of keeping him much good. I selfishly suggested to cesc4 last week that I hoped he was going to have a shit tournament but I couldnāt help cheering on the mad bastard tonight. Heās my favourite player in world football and I think I love him.
I agree
