Any decision yet on whether youâre going to travel tomorrow?
Anderson gets Warner.
Aussies 111-6.
Have you looked at the records on Australiaâs lowest run tallies in a test match? 111/6 now to got with the 136 first time around. That must be record territory? Havenât the time to go looking at the moment.
The records are generally done for one innings only but I found this list of teams who were bowled out for less than 100 in each innings: http://www.howstat.com.au/cricket/statistics/Matches/MatchScores.asp?Stat=4
They were bowled out for 47 against South Africa at Newlands in November 2011 but hit 284 in their first innings which is larger on its own than the likely total here.
Anderson gone off injured. Holding his side.
They did well to get to 47 in that test. They were 21/9.
The scores are level.
Finn back on and gets Johnson first ball. Thatâs an absolute dream return to test match cricket.
153/7.
5 for Finn.
Only been able to watch the highlights of both days. Sensational stuff. Unfortunately it has badly interfered with my well laid plans to sit on my arse all day on Saturday and Sunday watching the last two days.
Jesus wept. The pendulum swings again. Australia to win at Trent Bridge and then we have the test to end all tests at the Oval.
Well I was actually sorely tempted, but I have sone work issues which have to be addressed (really canât wait), and I thought Iâd keep my powder dry for the aishsf, hopefully meeting kp, carryharry and whoever else is kicking about for several pints of plain beforehand.
Hon the tribes.
Shame actually, Iâd like to have gone but I canât.
Englandâs recent form graph has been to follow up a thumping win with a stinker in the next test so Australia are certainly not out of this series yet. The Australian team needs to find form fast though. Rogers, Johnson and Lyon are the only three Australia players who have consistently performed up to scratch throughout the three tests and you could say are in form. Everybody else for Australia has been a letdown including Steven Smith (even if he did get a double century at Lordâs).
England do have a very good record at Trent Bridge over the last decade. It has become something of a fortress in much the same way as the Gabba has for Australia.
If Nevill could hang around in the morning and push the lead into three figures, it could well lead to a nervy England run chase, something like Trent Bridge 2005 when they lost 7 wickets before falling over the line in chasing down 129.
Itâs a good test of Nevill now, whether he can just stay in there and rack up singles and twoâs with the rest of the tail who will be up for it. The natural aggression and impatience to score runs has cost Australia dearly in this series so far. Some patience is required, especially in the face of bowlers who know what theyâre doing on tracks like this. They have to at least give the bowlers something to work with, but in reality this test has been lost. A new approach is seriously needed with the batting. The collapse of Clarkeâs form in particular is worrying.
Anderson will be a big loss if not fit for Trent Bridge. He bowls well there.
Any chance the Aussies will pick both Nevill and Haddin the next day and drop Voges?
Doubt it, if Nevill stays at the crease for a while here heâll be picked. Iâd say Clarke is probably under more pressure at the moment.
Voges will be dropped and the other Marsh will probably come in.
Clarkeâs current form with the bat if considered alone merits been dropped but a captain is not going to be dropped mid series. As has been said, Voges will be dropped with Shaun Marsh coming in.
Shane Watson shouldnât have been dropped after Cardiff. The 30 or so he chips in with it is as good as anything the lower middle order have mustered up. Watson is a tight bowler who doesnât leak many runs and is a good option as a fourth seamer. They really could have done with him this test when you look at how expensive and wayward both Starc and Hazelwood have been. Donât see Watson been recalled in any case. Peter Siddle has always done well in England and should be selected ahead of Starc for Trent Bridge.
Haddinâs situation has been handled very messily. His form certainly merited dropping both before and after Cardiff. The selectors held themselves hostage to fortune though after Cardiff saying that he wouldnât have been dropped for Lordâs, if he hadnât had to cry off in such unfortunate and upsetting family circumstances. Looks pretty callous now not selecting him for Edgbaston after backing him after Cardiff and saying his place was secure for the moment. Nevill has done okay with the bat, but his glove keeping hasnât been the best in this test.
Anderson has been officially ruled out for the fourth test at Trent Bridge.
England bring up 124/2 in 32.1 overs to clinch an 8 wicket win and a 2-1 series lead, Root 38 n.o. Bell 65 n.o.
Andersonâs injury takes some of the gloss off a terrific England win. Another failure with the bat from Lyth, dismissed for 12. Heâll be under pressure for Trent Bridge.
