Athletics Thread

Athletics (plus tennis) is the only sport with real diversity baked in.:clap::clap:

Still an undercurrent of sexism though

Reasonable comment from our Kevin. However that to me sums up why Twitter is a bad place and dangerous for anybody with a profile to be on - there’s no nuance or tone of voice and people are one clumsily worded response from villification and cancellation and often unless your job demands it, for no obvious benefit

And horse racing

Irish ladies came 2nd in the 4x200m final today. A fair achievement in a unique event. The mixed relay team finished well down the field but Thomas Barr was strategically sent home and didn’t run. Qualification for Tokyo all they cared about.

Some carnage in some of them. Brazil and Ghana DQ’ed in the men’s 4x100 for stepping out of lanes. The German starter did his hamstring in the first leg of the same race

Hon immigration

I know it’s tongue in cheek but I wonder how long it will take for middle Ireland to accept people with ‘foreign’ names and looks as Irish?

She’s born and bred, Ireland made her.

How long did it take black people to be seen as English I wonder. Likes of Ian Wright are 100pc seen as English now, even quintessentially English or Londoner, but doubt that was always the case. Maybe the English sounding names of the west Indians helped speed it along. Will be a long time before mention of an African fella playing for ireland doesn’t have people saying ‘great to see it’ or ‘good irish name haha’ and not just seeing it as completely normal.

Great stuff. There seems to be a huge upturn in female athletics over the past two years. Is there any reason for it?
