Lovely shout out half way through from Rhasidat to @TheUlteriorMotive and @mac. They’ll get her name right eventually.

The Fitzgibbon of running

That’s some result.

Like @gilgamboa, @TheUlteriorMotive had me worried there yesterday with his talk of turning down funding. I’d be surprised is O’Sullivan didn’t opt for Australia. She only ran for us once in a European championship iirc

Is her father coaching within their infrastructure?

I’ve no idea. I presume so.

She’s just class

We were reared on the middle distance events, it will almost certainly take an Olympic medal for Adeleke to become an icon in Ireland outside of the athletics fans
Thomas Barr for example doesn’t have anything like the profile he deserves

Very fair. Genetically, we shouldn’t be good sprinters so we’ve never been used to seeing Irish athletes contest at the top end. Derval O’Rourke is probably the closest we’ve had to world class in a sprint event but she could only ever compete at a European level and was usually blown away at World level.

If Barr was 10 years younger or older he’d probably medal at a World Final. He’s just unlucky he’s running at a time when his event is being dominated by some complete freaks of nature

I’m not sure about that with Barr. Missed a golden opportunity in Rio when loads of the top guys didn’t make final for various reasons. I think he’s very good and has achieved his potential. His bar is just below medal winning

Barr is as well known in Ireland as any Irish athlete who hasn’t won an Olympic medal

An absolute superstar in the making. Top 20 all time time for an event she started less than a year ago. Incredible potential.

A well rounded and level headed sort to boot. I hope she retains that somewhat

Sarah Healy with a great run and win.

Great to see her run with confidence. She’s a great talent
