Locked and loaded. Sure we’ve only ever one 2 World medals on the track like

Give us your predictions

Rhasidat and Mageean should make finals and be proper medal contenders but I think both will fall just short but hope I’m wrong.

Mixed & Ladies 4x400m both to make finals and run above themselves with both falling short.

Sophie O’Sullivan and Sarah Healy to make 1500m semi finals, both run PB’s but struggle to get to the final.

Katie O’Connor to set new Irish Heptathlon record and not medal.

Andrew Coscoran and Brian Fay to make finals, not threaten and come with storming late runs to finish 5th or 6th. Nick Griggs to hopefully make a final.

Mark English and Sarah Lavin to make finals as well hopefully and go in with an outside chance to picking something up.

1-2 medals would be a massive success. The hope would be to get a load of people into finals running PB’s / setting NR’s. You can’t really ask for much more than them to go faster than they every have before.

Is there anywhere that it’s isn’t raining?

This lad is a nephew of a friend of mine (more so a friend of mine’s wife). They’re all hoping to be in Paris next year.

I know I jest with you around this but hasn’t that been the major issue in recent majors, athletes not running to their standards. Hopefully they can produce the goods this week and rock on to Paris with a few live chances.

Yep, it’s a completely different thing for many of them. Whatever about the crowd, but just the prep for a race being something they’re not used to. The likes of Lavin, Coscoran, Mageean and Rhasidat running in Diamond League races is priceless experience. And the College’s circuit that Brian Fay and Sophie were running on is the type of intense experience you need.

You don’t mind if they’re not good enough if they run on their merits and to the best of their ability. It’s the biggest team that’s ever been sent. That doesn’t mean it’s the best team but it’s huge progress to have so many young athletes eligible to qualify and run in it, particularly over some of the shorter not traditionally Irish distances.

Jerry Kiernan will be a loss, slating the athletes who under perform.

Or providing motivation from beyond the grave to the likes of Mageean.

I’ve no clue who Virgin Media have lined up to present it. I will miss the 3 Corkies squeaking at each other with Peter Collins anchoring it.

I reckon Rhasidat to get a medal. Sydney McLaughlin out changes the dynamic of the race.

Only an auld cross country slogger

Is it not odd she hasn’t run since the Diamond League race? Plenty of opportunities for her. Have a knawing feeling she might have picked up a knock of some sort.

True. Equally she had a long collegiate season at the University of Texas so she may be tailoring her Championship preparation in recognition of that. 400 meters at Championships are brutal with all the running that has to be done before the final.

I can also confirm that the VM reporter got it wrong this morning. He’s no longer coached by Cork Rob.

Yep agree with that. I was full sure though she said when interviewed at the National Championships that she wasn’t running in them as she had another race coming up soon she needed to prep for.

How much would the likes of Heffernan be paid for coaching an athlete?
