Schedule of Irish athletes for Beijing Worlds

Are rte showing this - Jerry Kiernan  - or is entire sports budget now for rugby

World Athletics championships starts tomorrow. Main event is Sunday with Usain Bolt v Justin Gatling in the 100m. Gatlin, who I think has been done for drugs three times, definitely twice, is favourite. Bolt has been off form for ages but has shown some improvements recently. New IAAF chief, Seb Coe, and most people will be hoping Bolt pulls out a win.
The only Irish hopes of making a final seem to rest with Waterford’s Thomas Barr, who is ranked about 8 or 9 in the world for 400m hurdles.
I can’t see Mark English make the final. Hasn’t shown any form at all and didn’t even make the final at the world university games. Understandable, I suppose, seeing that he seemingly was very friendly with a few of the victims in Berkeley tragedy. Jack McCaffrey is in that medical class too.
All the other Irish probably happy enough just to be there.
@TheUlteriorMotive, care to give a preview of a few more of the events?

Good previews here

English has been injured and dumped his coach last year and is with Sonia’s husband Nic Bideau now. He is at an age now for 800m runner where he should be running fastest times. Class athlete and can deliver.

Gatlin has been running faster than when he was on peds and 8 years younger

Bolt is favourite

Just checked pp. You’re right. Some lad on the radio said otherwise today. I’m tempted to put a few quid on Gatlin but I wouldn’t get any enjoyment from making money on him.

English through as a fastest loser.

When is the final?

Semi finals tomorrow at 1.15 - men’s 800m final is 1.55 on Tuesday

100m men’s final at 2.15 tomorrow

Thomas Barr qualifies in 400m hurdles

Races here:

Barr finished like a rocket

Mo farah wins the 10,000

27.01

It’ll be tarnished in time

Justin’s moment of destiny is surely at hand.

Good V Evil

Gay ran slower than in semi

Bolt looks to have won it by a fraction

Sensational from the big man. Saved the big run for when it really mattered.
