She’ll need to run well under 49 to medal. She’s capable of it. 200m makes sense alright - lays a marker down too - if she’s fastest over 200m then others do have to think a bit about their own race
Either he was blowing hot air or has changed her prep. I’d say she could have easily ran faster in Monaco if pressed. He seems mad paranoid about her first 200m so I can see why the 200m in London makes sense. And if she finishes nowhere then its nothing lost either.
While this is also taper time, it’s also the time for the finishing touches. In my head, I would think that with two weeks to go there is still time for two more long runs, two more solid track sessions, two more threshold sessions, two more hills session. And then all that fills the gaps in between; the easy recovery miles, gym sessions, massage and of course rest.
She should be PBing in Paris, she’ll be disappointed not to go under 49 in the final with everything focussed on that, hopefully she won’t need to fully exert herself to get there
Cillin Greene ran the fastest 400m by an Irish man this year and the 5th fastest of all time yesterday. The problem is it was in Lausanne in Switzerland and nothing to do with the Olympics. He’s managed to peak for the Olympics from a time point of view but managed to completely mess up his race planning to get himself there. Poor fella could have had a European medal and an Olympic slot
He ran the first leg of the mixed relay in Barbados when they qualified for the Olympics. He’d have been running ahead of O’Donnell if he went to Rome.
He finished behind O’Donnell and Raftery in the Nationals so they were picked ahead of him with Tom Barr. And now he’s ran faster than all of them
It was highlights of that I saw during the week. Burke ran 2nd in his semi and 3rd in the final from the outside lane. 21.41 and 21.31. He snuck in on the line both times.
