Att: hotel venues c.2 hours from Cork

Looking to get away with Mrs Locke for two nights sans kids.

Locations not considered Kerry or Cork.

What I’ve come up with so far is The Old Ground in Ennis and the Whitford House Hotel in Wexford. Has to be close enough to the sea (as in Ennis to Moher) and keep it on a nice budget, recession and all that.

Of ye know anything about the hotels above or can recommend somewhere else please do.

Thanks lads

The Railway Hotel, limerick.

Cliff House in Ardmore, assuming you want to stay married to the lady. Either of the other two shitholes above, if you want the weekend to be a precursor to a long and messy divorce.

Heading to Monart in March, we should double date Lockes

The Falls in Ennistymon. The sea is now very close after Lahinch was devastated

What is the consensus on weekend away with the missus - stay local or go foreign (paris, Barcelona, London being popular suggestions).

Main complaint with a weekend away to a foreign city is that you don’t know lay of the land so often bars and restaurants are hit and miss even with google research. Most European cities are actually fairly dull once you have been there once - exceptions highlighted above.

Is it better to stay in Ireland and use the money saved on flights to stay somewhere nicer, eat somewhere nicer, do the spa thing etc and with travel time saved perhaps stay in two locations.

Is it made of money you think I am??!? Budget Fagan. But thanks for the feedback.

Been there @Fran, you’ll love it. But again budget would be blown apart.

Is it worth a trip Fagan? Was the food great?

Yes and yes.

After all that woman has done for you and you are nickel and diming her. And people think Protestant thrift is a myth.

TheTannery in dungarven does a B&B. stayed there before was nice. Might be deal midweek with dinner in resteraunt

If you’re living near a decent airport it’s just as easy to do a weekend break in Europe than drive 2/3 hours in a car in Ireland.

You should be shot for treason you cunt. What’s wrong with letting @theLockes boost the local economy on his"budget"

Naw, fuck that @Fran, done all that. Not saying it won’t be done again but might have to get back to base if necessary relatively quickly. And say north Clare would be the max I’d drive

That post was not necessarily for Lockes, his measly budget has already ruled him out of European City break.

I would second @dancarters Tannery suggestion

Jesus you’re in flyin form Fagan. Go away and have a wank for yourself mate.

Why not Kerry?

yeah easy enough to do but I was thinking of say
a night in cliff house and dinner in Michelin star restaurant
night in monart or brooklodge with spa stuff
night in Dublin - marker or Dylan or Westin and do a night on the tiles
match in Croke Park if I time it

all for under 800 euro whereas taxi to airport, flights, taxi other side to any city half decent is 500 euro or thereabouts for two - just travelling somewhere

I travel fairly regularly with work and get to socialise while away usually and I find most European cities a bit rubbish (Paris, London are exceptions)

Anywhere around Liscannor @theLockes . Can’t go wrong.

My homeplace in the leafy suburbs of Wexford town is in the shadows of Whitford. Sometimes we would eschew a night “down” town and instead head to Whitford for a few leisurely pints. I was there a couple of Saturdays ago for some bar food and Heineken. Run by lovely people.
