Ausbloodystralia

ill be there very soon fisty & i still wont give a flying fuck about “his interesting health policies”

 Ah lovely. Can’t wait for your arrival mate and friendly banter between us about the most important rivalry in Australian sport between the Mariners and the Roar. Looking forward to a cracking grand final repeat this year.

KIB Man, when are you going to start supporting the domestic football league here?

fisty-it appears the cost of living has substantially risen in oz-is this true-renting a queenslander is going to cost

whats the best way for a workshy person to make a quik buck?the mines?realty?

TASE, rents are indeed high throughout the country and I’d imagine this is certainly the case in all parts of QLD. You’re probably looking at least $500 a week for a house, naturally you will be doing your online research though.

The mines are not for the workshy, The money is great of course, but from the many people I know employed in it (some working in QLD) its fucking hard going. Its also difficult to get a job in the mines unless you have the relevant qualifications and experience, a BA in history may not cut it. Real estate could be good, but the moneys shit until you’re up and running with high sales.
TBH I don’t think you’d have any problems getting a job. Do the usual online looks and set up a few interviews before you get over here. What industry are you in at the moment?

You should join the Irish Professionals in Australia group on Linkedin, there’s a few jobs knocking around there.

work in finance for a quango-qualified accountant but would like a change of scene & to be honest not many of my roles/skills to date would be that transferable-my wife would know a few people with recruitment companies that will be very helpful -i thnk one recruits for the mines but with no skills what could you do/ kev has given me some tips

what are the quangos like in oz?that maybe where i end up-worked for the dept of abbos before and loved it

would love to cream off the oz economy & come home with a chunk of cash in my pocket

Well I work in the private sector, so I wouldn’t know, KIB Man might be able to help you there. Financial sector has taken a serious hit here as well, but if you have accountancy qualifications you should be set.

The Aussie dollar is high at the moment, so you could well leave with a tidy sum alright. I wouldn’t mind Kev, he’s an illegal.

Wahey

QLD is a lot cheaper than Sydney anyway for cost of living

Contacts are more important than academic qualifications. The mines aren’t really suited to family men but laboring job there will prob pay more than any Govt job.

Best of luck out there TASE. When do you go and is it permanent?

Just looking at a few photos and reading stories on a social networking site of fellas i know from back home who are all out in Sydney now. They seem to be spending all their free time and money in some place called the cock and bull, which i presume is popular among the Irish out there. This place and pubs like it must be making an absolute bomb out there off the Irish? Also, most of these fellas no matter what their background seem to be working in mediocre enough blue collar jobs. You’d wonder where this lifestyle will lead them say 3-4 years down the road, i’d say they will be looking back with regrets and thinking “why couldn’t i do something more constructive with my time here”. Their CV’s might not look great when and if they do return to Ireland some day…

I see where the “Oz is the greatest place on earth” fuckwits out there try to immerse themselves in shit Aussie sports like Aussie rules and rugby league, trying to fit in, posts on facebook, letting on tobe fanatic fans etc etc

Ah leave Kev alone Tassotti. That’s a low blow.

In Ireland we call them rugby supporters.

Is it true you’re spending the weekend with a bunch of them?

Emigrating to Australia is the new buying property abroad for the recession generation. You’re nobody unless you’re over there now living it up and loving every minute of it. Perth is the land of milk, honey and sheep. Fly in, fly out, mozzies, serious wedge. Serious lads, I tell ya.This is living, not existing. The lifestyle…oh the lifestyle. Follow the herd.

I see idiots on facebook who spent the entire weekend pissed, dying from drink then untill Wednesday and then do it all again, some life alright

You haven’t lived until you’ve puked on a Party Bus

You don’t have to leave Ireland for that. My first few years out of college were like that.

this cock and bull tavern or whatever it is called, seems to be the Mecca

No that is untrue.
Next.

Aw man, the Coogee Bay Hotel beer garden every Sunday arvo, make sure you’ve got your county colours on, drink the absolute shit out of it, then in for a swim before it gets dark, up to the Tea Garden in Bondi and more drinking the shit out it, that’s living. Far away from home but happy. I’m thinking of inventing a new drinking game for the Irish out there, “the All-Ireland Championship” I’m going to call it. 32 drinks, each a mini-cocktail in a shot glass, each a different colour to represent each county and remind you of the home you’re so glad to have got the hell out of. You pay for the lot in advance. If you get through them, you get your money back and a free bar for yourself for the rest for the evening. Frankly, I don’t know why an entreneurial type like me isn’t out there managing my own bar and ringing Joe Duffy to tell everybody how any Irish person worth their salt should leave that miserable backwater behind forever and make their fortune in the new world.
