Interesting bet. Hawks to score more points than goals at 2.62 or thereabouts. It’s very windy in Melbourne and this could throw a few kicks. As well as Hawks debate able bottle.
The GF has the highest amount of Indegenous players ever together, 8, with 4 each and the 2 Hills playing against each other (they are related, not 100% sure how).
Much like All Ireland, poor final after good finals.
Better team won, both teams awful I front of goal but Freo were scandalous. 7 no scores (not even hitting a point/behind) is Amateur Grade D stuff, incredible.
Hilarious seeing McGuire and all the Melbournites whining away about this, some melt down happening over it.
But I actually think its a bad move by the Swans and a very unSwans like one.
The COLA will be done away with now, it was going to be anyway and I’d say the Swans probably thought they’d have one big blow out before it happened. Franklin and his management actually approached the Swans first.
The deal is $10 mil over 9 (!) years, so Buddy will be 36 when it ends and they will have to keep him on the player roster over that time. Ludicrous, he’ll never make it to then, I think he’s already got th fourth highest amount of games played in AFL history. His best days are behind him anyway, so its a massive risk.
But the real damage is to the rest of the squad. Kurt Tippett is already there, so why another marquee forward? They will probably have to let Shane Mumford go to keep under the cap, he will be a massive loss, he’s been brilliant since he joined us. Jesse White is about to leave, Jude Bolton, Marty Matner and Mitch Morton have all retired, so new players needed, but how do you pay them now?
I think this will weaken the Swans at a time we should have been bringing in a number of players to cover the retirements, injuries and old age creeping in. But we’ve blown it all on one player, albeit a fantastic one. But its a huge risk and will become a weight around the clubs neck for 9 years.
I’d say Tommy Walsh will be gone during the close season. He should go back to Kerry, he’s just what they need with Star pretty much gone.
Happy enough with that for a couple of reasons. He has come from a club where he was coaching top players and won 2 premierships. He won 2 as well as a player. also, he is not an ex Eagles player stuck in the vacuum of Perth and can take an objective view as an outsider coming in and wont have the same tendancies of a stale club man rising through the ranks. this may hinder him too, being a Victorian coming into their patch, but they need a shake up.
some big moves today. Eddie Betts to Adelaide, and Syliva to Freo. Looks like Daisy Thomas to Carlton is a done deal too.
