Aussie Rules 2013

+1

its a joke of a sport, AFL players playing GGA but being warned not to be agressive

Aussies hate it, They couldnt even half fill a small enough stadium(& the ones that went were actually muldoons) in victoria the so called diehard area of GAYFL

5000 at the GWS game today

the football team in that area get 20,000:D

the AFLs response- blame the immigrants:D

But their target audience is immigrants who have come from predominantly soccer mad countries. It’s low hanging fruit for soccer. The AFL know its a big challenge that will take years. You wait and see, GWS will make finals in 5 years and it will all change.

While on the subject, are WSW not as much, if not more, of a bandwagon than Munster or Leinster? Funny you glorify their bandwagon yet scorn rugby in your country of birth.

there isnt a chance GWS will be around in years if the community has little interest. The AFL expansion outside victoria has been a joke

Ya sure it has. Eagles and Freo only get 45 k sold out every week, Brisbane Win 3 in a row with one of the greatest teams ever, Sydney have one of the best clubs going, Gold Coast are showing signs of developing a competitive team, GWS have the best young players in the league.

GWS opened up a new stadium this week and the people of Sydney had no interest in it
Brisbane had an advantage in they had a higher salary cap thanother teams - at the moment though the stadium is 75% empty and the media are showing little interest in the team
the Gold Coast are developing a competitive team but when they play at home most fans follow the opposition

Its a sham

You still failed to ask the question. Well clamped.

You don’t get it. They have to be competitive, at least, before they’ll get the crowds. The Aussies only back a winner.

Soccer will only ever reach the level it has or slightly above. The middle and upper class don’t support it enough so it’s fucked.

you dont get it kev- they are forcing a sport into areas where no one wants it and its been a disater

More kids play football than any other sport in Australia
The A league is going from strentgh to strentgh
Its one of the few sports loved Australia wide

I think you’re wrong about soccer here Kev, WSW is not a bandwagon, it was there waiting to happen. You’re right about the other points though. In saying that, Kevin Sheedy needs to watch his language about soccer.

How has it been a disaster? It’s only in its infancy. Nobody wants to see teams being hammered every week, but that will change.

Successful sport, as you yourself have pointed out many times to support other demented points, needs lots of money and middle class support. Soccer doesn’t have that. Never will, it will remain like it has in Ireland, a poorly run poor relation.

Of course it’s a bandwagon, were they not as successful as they were this year would they be getting the crowds they were? I’m not anti band wagon though, bandwagons are great, they are good for communities.

But you are agreeing with me, I said it was low hanging fruit, as you suggest, something waiting to happen, easy to tap into.

They wouldn’t have gotten the crowds they did, but wouldn’t have been far off it if they hadn’t been as successful. They will be the biggest club in the A League in a short time.

the sad thing about all this is that you are only here 12 months or so and you have already bought into the Australians hatred of “wogs” and “wogball”

Mate, he’s here 2 years and wog is a term of endearment here, not one of hatred.

Football has twice the number of players in Ireland than rugby, gga, stickhurling and handball combined

Football clubs are making money in Ireland-75% of GGA county boards are in debt and losing money

Football gets higher TV figures than all other sports

3 times as many football fans went to Poland to see a game than the average championship game

Jesus, those ESRI reports cover a lot of ground.

arent you Irish- its easy for a pasty Irishman to say that- your experience would be different than mine as being part italian and not being pasty I have expereinced racism

By the way, the most participated sports in Australia for kids is swimming.

Soccer, including all social and 5 a sides etc is the most played by adults, slightly ahead of Aussie Rules for men and in or around the same as Netball for girls.

Someone told me the fastest growing sport in over the past couple of years has been Gaelic Football. I have never seen that in data though. The numbers have trebled in WA anyway

I’m here over 2 years and ye racist nature of some Aussies disgusts me. The Italian-Aussies are some of the most racist though.
