What a winner.
Unreal stuff.
Opps forgot they changed the rule
Ditto
Fuck sake Federer could pull this off.
Were you watching the match? Federer was out on his feet 5th set as you’d expect from a near 39 year old. He served as many double faults in that 5th set as he ordinarily would in a tournament, a sure sign of fatigue. You’re very irrational and emotive.
Amazing stuff the longer tie break goes on federer get stronger. 6-2 down to 9-8 up.
The man is incredible.
taxi for Jeff federer finishes the strongest and wins in five sets. The drugs work.
What a win by Federer. How did he win that.
Think you have been caught out feeding porkies again Geoff.
Taking just over 4 hours and a 5th set tie-break to prevail over journeyman John Millman in Round 3 doesn’t auger well for further advancement. It was sad to see the Great Man playing like a club player out there today. He wouldn’t have dropped 5 games against Millman up to 3 or 4 years ago. Sounds like he belatedly woke himself up and showed his class at the end of the tie break. Or was it a case of Millman handing it to him?
Best thing that could have happened him.
He has played very little tennis since the US Open and probably needed that. Shouldn’t effect them too much fatigue wise as he has a couple of easy ties on paper next and it will lead him in perfectly for a go at Djokovic this day week.
The tournament needed Federer in it once Tsitsipas shit his pants today. The bottom half of the draw is very weak.
If he finished the match in 4 sets I would agree with you that it was probably what he needed but the 5 sets I think is too much for him to recover from and he usually gets beaten the next day.
He has fucsovics next who if Federer is on form he should beat. He will need to win that in 3 quick sets and expend as little energy as possible l
He has two days to recover and two easy ties that he should wrap up fairly routinely next. It’s perfect for him.
The weariness factor with Federer doesn’t make sense either. Bizarrely he’s in better shape in his mid to late 30s than before. In the 2017 Australian Open he played 3 five setters from R4 onwards. He has a golden path to a semi final now.
Maybe if he has some easy games.
He has some Hungarian chump next and then either Sandgren or Fognini in the quarters. It’s a very soft path to the semi.
If he can recover physically from today, he should beat Fucsovics, but that’s not a given by any means really. Fognini would be a tricky quarter final opponent.
Reality is for the last two years Federer is no longer a factor anywhere outside of the grass courts. His last three Grand Slams on the hardcourts, he lost in the quarters at the US Open last year to an unseeded Grigor Dimitrov (first time in 8 meetings), in Australia last year in the 4th round to 14th seed Tsitsipas and in the 2018 US Open in the 4th round to an unseeded Millman.
