Iggy pop or the pogues
Agree on AC/DC
INXS were by no means the worst.

Perhaps I worded that incorrectly-I meant that INXS and AC/DC were the exception to the shit bands Australia have produced. AC/DC may be a bit formulaic but as stadium rockers go, they are hard bet. INXS have a catalogue of smashing tunes to their credit.
I often hark back to the glory days of pub rock, Dr Feelgood, Graham Parker and the Rumour and Eddie and the Hot Rods, and the Irish scene of the same era, Rocky De Valera and the Gravediggers, Fit Kilkenny and the Remoulds and the Alsations.
Good Kev. I posted one of his songs, Crucify Your Mind, in Smashing Tunes a while back. My brother bought the Cold Fact album a couple of years back. Itâs a quality album - reminded me a lot of Dylan.
The Aussies have contributed to the music scene down the years with Nick Cave and the Go Betweens/Grant McLennan. Donât know what the scene is like now but by the sounds of things it doesnât sound great.
I have Only recently come across him due to the Doc and Iâm inspired by him. Brilliant lyricist. Being the socialist type I like him descriptive honesty, but he also has a super voice. The Mexican Luke Kelly.
The Aussies have the odd decent band and I have seen some very good original local stuff, but unless you sound like everything else now itâs clear youâll go nowhere. The copycat nature and want to be little Americanâs nature of modern Aussie society ruins alot of the good stuff going main stream.
Agree on Midnight Oil.
Paul Kelly is a good artist, but honestly, he would never have made it out of his own city were he in the states.
Jesus Christ.
INXS were shite.
No oneâs mentioned the Saints and their iconic track Stranded.
Thereâs plenty of good music coming out of Australia - Hilltop Hoods, Paul Kelly (is a fucking genius Kev), Tame Impala, Sarah Blasko, Geoffrey Gurrimul, Augie March, Bob Evans, Xaviar Rudd, The Rubens. Thereâs a lot of shit as well, you just have to look for the good stuff like anywhere. Give it up with the uninformed blanket statements Kev.
Back in Black aside, AC/DC died with Bon Scott.

How is it uninformed? Iâve lived here for 2 years, last 9 months Iâve spent 7-8 hours a day listening to mostly Aussie music.
Rudd is decent alright, Kelly is decent as I say, but nothing too special.
Hill top hoods îîî
Youâd swallow any shite wouldnât you.
Tame Impala and The Rubens are brand new, they really are not in this conversation. TI are not really my type, The Rubens have potential. Back for Lashes are pretty unique and decent.
Youâve become a total Aussie and your standards have dropped to their levels.
Good call on Xavier Rudd.
Fuck off with your Australian shite. They will never produce a Clash, Specials, Nirvana etc. Itâs a musical backwater âŚ

Back for Lashes? You mean Bat For Lashes, the noted English singer / songwriter? Your 7000 or so hours of listening to Australian music has seemingly still left you uninformed.
Mate, your from Limerick, whoâs only decent band was Tuesday Blue, so fuck off.
There you go, not even
Back for Lashes? You mean Bat For Lashes, the noted English singer / songwriter? Your 7000 or so hours of listening to Australian music has seemingly still left you uninformed.
There you go, not even Aussie. Simple mistake I suppose when they play them on Aussie Only hours.
I listen to the music, not the shite spouted about them. You should try it.
there is a bridge in brisbane called the go between bridge named after the band
isnt that a clever play on words everybody?
I thought he meant âBat For Lashesâ, then I realised she was English and thought not even Kev would make such a retarded mistake so I assumed âBack For Lashesâ were some new OZ bandâŚ
The late 70âs / early 80âs punk / post punk / new wave music CM was talking about is one of my favourites. There were a lot of very good Irish bands during this time and then the late 80âs - Radiators, The Blades, Undertones, Handsome Dick Manitoba, Stiff Little Fingers (my own personal favourite), The Atrix, Blue In Heaven, Virgin Prunes, Cactus World News, Tuesday Blue, Subterraneans (there was a lot of shite as well) and a thriving folk / trad scene with Moving Hearts, Paul Brady, Planxty, Scullion, Stocktons Wing, Freddie White, Clannad. These are really my first and formative musical influences. The brother was instrumental in this as he bought NME and Hot Press (heâs currently shipping about 100 of them from Bunclody to Boston, all circa 1980-82, could be worth a fair bit now, theyâre pure gold, some of the Hot Press interviews are brilliant) and many of these records. I loved a lot of the Irish bands that formed mid-late 80âs, Mary Coughlan, Something Happens, My Bloody Valentine, A House, Stunning, Fatima Mansions, Microdisney, An Emotional Fish, In Tua Nua (theyâre probably a bit earlier, I know Leslie quite well, lovely woman), Aslan, Waterboys, Sawdoctors. Thereâs many others, some were one hit wonders (see Subterraneans) but there was a lot of quality stuff there. How Dave Couse isnât an internationally recognised and renowned songwriter and artist is beyond me.
There was a band from Bray who released a fucking brilliant debut album and then pretty much died, canât remember their name, circa 1990?

Raven, you fucking genius Iâve been trying to remember them for ages, absolutely brilliant they were.

As for U2, the last three albums havenât been great (that Neds atomic dustbin or whatever its called is pure muck) but I absolutely love everything else theyâve ever done.
one thing I notice here compared to Oireland is that we support our local music much more here- the radio stations in Oireland just ape their English counterparts and dont give local bands a break
