Ballon D'Or 2011
Was it?

The emphasis in a World Cup year should overwhelmingly be on the World Cup. Neuer should have got it.

Ronaldo had zero impact at the World Cup. He had negligible impact in the European Cup Final too and Real finished 3rd in what is supposedly a 2 team league.
He threw one of his usual strops at the world cup also. Nueur should have won it, but the unimaginative cunts in football would never give it to a keeper.

Too fucking right, a failed footballer.

The Ballysteen (or thereabouts) custodian will be on later to whip you into line.

I’m sorry boxty, its a thankless job, best of luck to anyone who takes it up, but in these situations its mere folly to suggest some lad who can pick up the ball with his hands is worthy of such an accolade.

Just looking at the list of past winners there, Lev Yashin the only goalkeeper to have won it. Up until 2010, Kevin Keegan in 1978 the only player in a World Cup year to have got it who wasn’t one of the stars of the World Cup. Messi in 2010 and now Ronaldo in 2014 have both been awarded it with their non-performances in the sports blue riband event completely overlooked.

If he was any good he’d have played outfield fulltime. Another lazy cunt.

Its just become the lazy default position to award it to Messi or Ronaldo every year for all their flat track bullying in Spain even though both have made modest impacts on the really big stage. They’ve won the last 7 between them with the other finishing runner up in 6 of the last 7 years.

Didn’t Ronaldo bottle it in the Champions League final as well?

Kevin Strootman will win it next year

Best player in the world last year was clearly Suarez - he almost won a title for Liverpool single handed

No player has had that impact since Maradona with Napoli.

No nomination for Suarez (and the Roche nomination for the goal award) expose this competition as a cynical marketing exercise.

An organisation governed by Josep Blatter, cynical?! No way, really? You should really go public with this one pal, I doubt anyone had realised this nugget.

He scored 38 league goals, 13 in the Champions League including one in the final which his team won and got the winner for Portugal against Ghana in the World Cup where he wasn’t fully fit. Both Messi and Ronaldo are absolute freaks in terms of goals scored and impacts and are millions and millions of miles above any other player on the planet.

Damn I can’t believe I took the bait.

If Liverpool had won the league and Suarez didn’t spend the bones of four months suspended then he may well have been in the mix

Or if he had scored as many goals as Ronaldo or Messi and won a Champions League and didn’t bite people.

You don’t get sarcasm pal.

We need a tongue in cheek emoticon for dullards like @myboyblue
