Don’t be coming in here with facts. @peddlerscross and @BruidheanChaorthainn believe everything was better in the olden days before they were born.
You actually think inter county hurling is good to watch nowadays ? Lads shooting every forty seconds ? It’s utterly shite.
Waterford were supposed to have the best squad in the country coming into the tournament.
Have you ever watched GAA gold? Now that was shite
So you can’t answer the question.
Sure that is neither nor there. Teams have up and down year or years, it happens. The backdoor system suited Waterford, yet the round robin suited Clare. They are the inverse of each other
Format doesn’t make a difference if your set up is right or wrong. Waterford overtrained and made a balls of it, backdoor or round robin would have made no odds.
Put the ball over the bar, and no more about it
No offence lad but when Limerick beat Clare by 30 odd points on Sunday will you come back and say the format suits Clare ?
Are you confident Limerick will win by 30 points?
I think modern hurling when played out between two good teams is an excellent spectacle. Limerick in full flow are a joy to watch
Are you really going to take that seriously??
The game will be over by 20 minutes.
It’s the worst hurling championship of all time.
Everything is tilted in the best teams favour in this format.
You will surely give me even money so on Clare with a 12 point or so head start so
Bluff called
I won’t because I don’t bet on the gaa anymore.
A 1/7 shot.
I’m not going to say that the game couldn’t improve as a spectacle; of course there are areas in the game that aren’t always that pretty to watch. But I think that’s always been the case; I certainly don’t think the game is any worse as a spectacle now than it was 20 years ago and it’s a serious case of rose-tinted glasses if you disagree, I think.
There are probably tweaks that could be made to improve matters but I suppose my issue would be that the main detractors don’t seem to have a consistent view on what they actually want to see.
They want more contests for the ball, but they don’t want rucks. Which is what will happen if the ball is contested for more.
They want less shots apparently, or at least shots from distance. But if you can’t shoot from distance, it will become more like football, teams will drop defences deeper and deeper to prevent shooting in the scoring zone. That will certainly reduce scoring but, in my eyes, that’s an even worse spectacle than what we currently have.
When two teams of an equal level go head-to-head, the game remains class. Good teams don’t allow the opposition get handy space and take scores without any pressure. Some teams aren’t good, but again, there always were mismatches and they were never great to watch.
A couple of small improvements I would look to make would be enforcing a time limit for freetakers. One of the big things that creates a lull is taking 90+ seconds to take a handy free. I would probably tweak the steps rule to a time-based rule and actually enforce it. And wouldn’t be against tweaking the handpass rule either. Oh, and take timekeeping off the referees.
Some of what you said on here Id agree with - I enjoyed the match in Ennis because it was tight and tense and harder to score but generally some of these games are shocking, lots of silly frees, one sided etc.
But you’ve been called out here and you havent responded well!!!
Just as I thought, auld soft talk.
Lets make it a charity bet. 200 to the charity of the others choice. I will even make it Clare +11.5 so you can have the draw if it is a 12 point win by Limerick
What they want is Limerick to stop winning.
If you are going to talk the talk you have to walk the walk
My auld mucker @Balbec will verify that I manned up and gave him evens on the 2013 game when I could have gotten far better odds on Clare in the bookies. But when you know you know and the way @BruidheanChaorthainn is sure of a 30 point win surely a 11.5 spread will be covered and he will have something more important than money.
He will be proven right on the internet
