Banjogeddon: 2022 Munster SHC Final - Limerick V Clare - June 5th 16.00

He’s like a fella who was championing this indie band for years, and when they become famous and throw out a few crowd pleasing songs, he loses interest and moves onto the next thing.

Well I’m not going to stay quiet on my opinion anyway as I love hurling but think it’s going in a terrible direction at the moment.

Hurling is barely played in eight counties and if we keep going this way it won’t be played in four counties in another decade.

Galway and Kilkenny are playing next Saturday and there’ll be nearly 30k at it. You’d literally have zero idea it’s on. It just isn’t good for the game in the long run.

I accept there will always be a bandwagon In most counties and that’s not a bad thing but when you dig a little deeper I don’t think the game is in a good place.

And the Limerick full back is a Clareman.

Huge crossover

We knew Limerick success would be the end of hurling.

We knew.

Grandnephew of Tom’s. His father, Seanie, hurled for Ballybrown for many years.

You are saying that like it is an anomaly. Go back and look at the attendance of every other Leinster final containing both those teams over the last 15 years

You having a go at me :rage::rage:?

In fairness you have to be very careful where you park in Limerick

Hurling is doing just fine. It’s the same as it always was. It’s better than ever if anything. Clare, Limerick and Galway have all won all Irelands in the last decade. That’s the same amount of “weaker” counties that made a breakthrough in the revolution years as they are known. The glory days of hurling. Plus KK & Tipp giving 5 different winners in the last ten years.

Was the sport in a better place in 00’s when KK, Cork and Tipp divided them all between them?

Hurling has always only been played by 8 counties.

That doesn’t make it ok.

This new format is simply about short term greed.

This is true.

That explains the grit anyway

Well I strongly disagree on pretty much everything with you.

I think the games are largely Terrible. Shots being fired off every forty seconds or so etc. I hate it.

What about if I am old man?

Ye fucking ruined it ye cunts.

But the old format delivered the same attendances for Leinster finals. Regardless of the format you aren’t going to get a huge crowd for Galway Kilkenny unless it is an A/I final.

The attendance of their meetings in the 2001 and 2005 All Ireland semi finals when it was do or die was 35k and 40k

The old format gave more counties a chance.

The bigger counties weren’t going to pump the same funds into the senior teams without the guarantee off games.

Look at Waterford in 2020 and 2021 compared to 18, 19 and 22.

Nowadays you’ll need a big squad and a big budget to really compete. That isn’t right Imo.

The facts don’t support your views.
