Banjogeddon: 2022 Munster SHC Final - Limerick V Clare - June 5th 16.00

Cody with KK as well, but think he takes a small bit too much out of the ball sometimes, maybe just trying to work goals

Jesus lads really dont get it.

There are plenty marquee forwards still playing, not as many as 5 years ago but still a few around.

The problem is is that they are all north of 26 now with little or nothing coming through with the magical wrists of what went before.

Neither Rodgers or McCarthy are fit @Aristotle

Rodgers suffered a bad setback a fortnight back, not sure on Aidan Mc

Cody is class imo. All those marquee forwards can be greedy enough tbh.

Yeah was thinking Mullen just about makes the cut although he hasn’t quite fulfilled his potential in inter-county yet. Eoin Cody looking like a marquee forward these days too. Ballyhale have some continuous conveyor belt of forward talents.

I think lads are overstating some players as marquee forwards.

To me a marquee forward is the lad who the whole forward line runs through or the fella who teams either set their gameplan up to negate or put their main man marker on.

Lads like John McGrath, Forde, Mannion, Casey etc are not that guy, they are all very talented and excellent finishers and often hurl well due to the fact that their more illustrious/marquee colleague(s) give them some plum match ups.

Stephen Bennett is not a marquee forward. He was brutal in every game for Waterford in the round robin. He was even missing handy enough frees. A good winter hurler as Fagan correctly called it.

That’s another nonsense post. Sure TJ and Callanan were nothing like the players they came to be until they were 26 or 27.

Callanan was clane useless till he got to around 26

He was brilliant in 2009 when he was about 20. Then kind of drifted until around 2014 when he really kicked on. It all happened in a qualifier against Galway that year iirc.

He was MOTM in a Munster final as a teenager.

He was always extremely talented, just needed some maturity

Is Pat Ryan back with the Limerick squad?

You’ve just cherrypicked two lads to suit your argument.

And Callanan had cleaned up in an AI Final at 21 years of age - one of the best games ever. TJ had a lot done too and was highly regarded by the true connoseuirs of the game at a young age. They had magical wrists.

TK, Gleeson, Canning, NMCG, Horgan, Bubbles the same. Just poetry in motion watching them play.

The lads coming through now are all mechanical robots with big awkward swings. I think its down to the decline in Ground Hurling blitzes at under 10/11. Look at the Fitzgibbon Cup this year and it tells you all you need to know.

Its down to systems, its kills individual talent. Systems as alluded by @Big_Dan_Campbell , places an emphasis on athletic ability over skill.

Like an otter, He lived in Richie McCarty’s pocket for a few years anyway.

You’re correct. Rory Hayes spent the first 12 or so years of his life in Ballybrown did he not?

Rory Hayes is also a first cousin of Colin Coughlan if I’m not mistaken (which I don’t think I am)

I remember seeing Conor McDonald in a Fresher game for ÙCD one year. Cc @Aertel220

Big high ball into the edge of the square. He caught it cleanly over the full back, swivelled and turned, rifling a rasper of a shot to the roof of the net all in the one movement. It was an unreal piece of skill. Think he bagged a hattrick the same night. McDonald had already played championship for Wexford at the time the previous year. A star.

Tadhg De Burca was on the opposite side and stood out a mile. Pure dominant. He was just making his League debut for Waterford at the time.

You’d never see anything like that now. You couldnt pick anyone out as a bit special in these games.

McDonald played minor, U21 and senior all in the one year in 2013. On the topic of “marquee forwards”. He was certainly shaping up to be a special one back around 2014/15 but he isn’t currently playing a consistent enough level to be considered one. That was some display he produced when he scored the hat-trick of goals against Kilkenny in 2015 U21.

Sure Gillane did that twice against your lot only a few weeks ago in a Munster championship match but you are referring to some Mickey Mouse freshers match from 7 years ago, get back into your hall of Famers virtual reality and don’t be bothering the rest of us.

You obviously didn’t see Adam or Cathal play Freshers this year, they destroyed all around them.
