Itâs fascinating to watch the media propaganda on this one. If this was a US Republican or conservative, the picture would be all over the front pages and the politician denounced as a racist.
A quick review of the major liberal news outlets reveals that not one of them published the picture, and not one of them referred to Trudeau as a racist. The âstoryâ is that he apologized.

Blackface is offensive in the USA because the American blackface tradition descends from the old minstrel tradition that made fun of slavery and was unbelievably racist. In Ireland and Europe blackface does not descend from that tradition and has lots of different origins.

In Monaghan there used to be an annual fancy dress party in the Hillgrove Hotel every St. Stephenâs Day. The top prize for best fancy dress was a trip to Las Vegas and people made a big effort. One year 4 Clontibret boys I know made a brilliant lifesize Jamaican bobsleigh, sewed up Jamaican bobsleigh clothes, put on blackface and went as Cool Runnings. It was an unbelievable costume and they deservedly won a prize for it. This would have been around the year 2000. Those boys were not racist and were not making fun of any black people. Obviously you wouldnât do it today but itâs not fair to attack them.
I remember one year in the Sem the school play was To Kill A Mockingbird. It was @Chucks_Nwoko 's year and Chucks may well have been involved. Itâs an anti-racist play. The boys who played the black characters wore blackface.
Shakespeareâs Othello is a black character and also very progressive. For centuries every actor who played him wore blackface because there were almost no black people in medieval England.
However Trudeau is in Canada, right beside the USA and would know all about the racist minstrel tradition so I donât know.

The biggest issue is the hypocrisy of the left. The wise poster @labane1917 warned that this was the inevitable outcome during the Brett Kavanaugh character assassination, which effectively declared open season on the past of every politician and public figure.
Sidney made an ass of himself again recently, quoting the latest allegation on Kavanaugh as fact, simply because it was reported in the media, ignoring the fact it was written by two shameful âjournalistsâ infamous for their exposes based on no evidence. The NY Times had to back away from the story within a day.
When you are as married to an ideology as he is, you will literally believe anything with no supporting evidence, and disbelieve anything with supporting evidence, if it fits with your belief system. Itâs one of the most interesting aspects of human psychology, the ability to be both intelligent and incredibly stupid simultaneously.
Was it North Carolina where there was recently a politician the media wanted to resign because he wore blackface in college? In fairness that lad was a democrat.

It was Ralph Northam, the governor of Virginia. There were calls for his resignation, but the story is now dead and he is still in office. His next in line was Lt Gov Justin Fairfax, who has been accused of sexual assault / rape by two women, and the next in line is AG Mark Henning who has also been pictured wearing blackface.
The calls for all their resignations ended when the Democrats and media realized the fourth in line was a Republican.
Virginians are mad for a bit of blackface.
When I was a young lad I decided to dress up as Muhammad Ali for a fancy dress competition. Got the boxing gloves and shorts and a little dressing gown. Before I went out I headed down under the stairs and got out some black boot polish to put it on my face and out I went. My arms and legs were white. I didnât win first place but scored highly.
It took me fucking ages and a lot of flannel and soap that night to wash it off my face which was red raw after it all.

I lived in Holland as a child where you had Black Peter as St Nicholasâ helper. Think itâs become more controversial now but the majority of Dutch people do not see him as a racist character.
