BDO World Professional Darts Championships 2014

Colin is a Liverpool fan.

Looking forward to Scotty Dog’s commentary on the James Wilson-Christian Kist match tonight. That’ll be yet another clash of the titans.

Paul Hogan so gracious in his post-match interview, delighted for his England team-mate.

The Crocodile is currently without a sponsor. Surely that’ll change after that display.

Stephen Bunting 1-0 and 1-0 up against Jim Widmayer, the only United Statesian and indeed the only American left in the competition.

Great to see Tony O’Shea having a commiseratory drink in the audience with his family and friends, while simultaneously appreciating the good darts Stephen and Jim are both playing here.

Hopefully he’ll stay around for the rest of the week.

And Jim pulls a set back. 2-1 to the Bullet. The St. Helen’s man won the Winmau World Masters in October without dropping a set in the tournament but he now can’t repeat that feat here.

The Bullet averaging over um-um-wud with his first nine darts.

And he wins it!

Impwessive avewages so faw I see. ha ha ha ha

Eighty fwee avewage fwom Jim Widmayer there to be pwecise.

But that still wasn’t enough to challenge the world umba one. That’s the standard.

Fantastic to see the biggest event in darts drawing lapsed posters back to TFK.

As an aside, I see 960,000 views watched the apartheid darts final between van Gerwen and Wright on TV.

That compares to the 2.2 million viewers who tuned into last year’s BDO final between Scotty Waites and Tony O’Shea.

Read that earlier. Was going to post it but I felt I needn’t bother. Can’t wait to get home from work and catch the bus to Tungsten Town.

And 960,000 very disappointed people they would have been. A shit match to conclude a shit tournament.

Liverpool fan or not, I despise that fucker.

How many tuned in on BBC Radio 5 Live?

Deta Hedman has just hit over an 83 average in her 2-0 win over Lorraine Farlam.

At 6/4 for the Ladies’ title, she looks a stand out bet.

She should have entered the men’s tournament. Tony O’Shea averaged less than 75 today and he’s the fucking #3 seed.

My sources tell me that Tony injured his throwing arm playing draughts last night. It’s a testament to his never say die attitude that he managed to make it onto the oche at all.

Very unfortunate indeed for the Silverback and reminiscent of Scott Waites’ dominoes injury. These boys are competitive at everything they play and sadly injuries can sometimes be the result, although there’s always great camaraderie.

By the way, the great Martin Fitzmaurice has said that he’d love to see Deta Hedman to win the Ladies’ title. Those people who called him a racist are now looking rather foolish.

Rick Hofstra can be got at anywhere between 50 and 80/1 to win this tournament.

I expect him to beat Martin Atkins tomorrow and given his average of over 90 in his first round win over Remco van Eijden, those prices represent excellent value, each way at least.

It’s Game On in tonight’s big clash between Wilson and Kist.

1-1 in sets in what has been a terrific match so far.

Christian averaging an amazing 137 in this set.
