That’s 3 mistakes leading to goals in 19 seasons. Not bad going. The time he kicked the Armagh lad in 2003 is another mistake. I’m struggling to think of too many more. The argument around having the best players around him is silly too. He didn’t have anything like the best players around him from 2002 to 2010 but was still the outstanding keeper of that era too.
And that would be the rock upon which my zen would finally perish
That’s playing for the best team in the country. Those 3 goals he was responsible for were in All Ireland semi finals for the best team in the country in the past 4 seasons.
How many goals have the likes of Morgan, Clarke, Ryan etc cost their teams in All Ireland latter stage games in the same time?
I won’t dismiss him 00-09 but as I’ve said there are 4 or 5 keepers about now at this level. He is aided right now by playing for by far and away the best team in the country.
I wouldn’t disagree with the point that the likes of Beggan, Galligan, Patton are every bit as good as him now but he is 40 or close to it.
Yes but there are comments from some quarters than Cluxton is indispensable to Dublin, which is nonsense. He’s still a good keeper but when he goes, someone else will come in and do it. Cluxton has changed the role now that keepers at all levels are extremely good on restarts. Cluxton’s ability is now overstated because he has the best players in the county to kick out to - makes it so much easier than the other keepers mentioned.
Well Evan Comerford is not up to it and that u20 keeper was eaten alive by Galway on kick outs last Saturday. I don’t think replacing him will be easy and he is in decline.
What proper chance has Comerford been given?
I thought he did alright in some of the league games I’ve seen.
He’s played quite a few uninspiring league games at this stage. His kick out range wouldn’t be close to Cluxton’s. He’s also had some poor moments for Ballymun in recent club championships. He’s ok but not brilliant by any stretch.
I’ve seen him in the league games and didn’t think he looked a weak link or anything. It might take some time for him to bed in and grow his experience. I didn’t really rate David Byrne when he first broke on the Dublin team but as time has gone on he has got better and better.
I don’t think Cluxton stepping away will be the difference between a Dublin All Ireland or not.
Cluxton’s kick out range and accuracy is sensational. He’s changed the sport.
He did. He kicked the ball to the advantage of his team. Incredible. Goalkeeping has come a long way.
It took a Dub to figure it out. The Muldoons must be seething at the simplicity of it all.
Yeah he basically handed Kerry a cushion in that 2016 game, they held onto it until the final 5-10 mins when Dublin eventually wore them down (sound familiar?). Very similar performance by him to that 2015 drawn game against Mayo too. Although in fairness to him he was very good in the 2019 draw against Kerry and actually appears to have improved over the past couple of years.
The muldoons didn’t need it to win All Ireland’s. They could bate it out. Hop off each other. And lave it into the skilful lads who won the games and everyone could skull pints to bate the band.
It was a grand auld game back then.
Lock the thread
Hickey barley touched the ball in 07 final either did begly. Its a great sign of a defender. Maldini was the same
Are you comparing Paolo Maldini to Brian Begley?
Are you drunk? Enjoy
Happy Christmas you crazy hoore
Michael Murphy by a mile for me. Donegal would have been Fermanagh without him. None of the Dublin greats could carry a county like he did.
