Best hurler not to win an all star 2000 to 2010

Bizarre in hindsight.

Adrian Fogarty has to be on that list too. Some man on the big day.

@Big_Dan_Campbell, I’d have Donal O’Grady in there as an even more deserving candidate than Reale.

8 All Irelands and a MOTM in the final in 2006.

I always liked Reale as a hurler but felt he was slighly overrated by the Limerick fans who had him as a bit of a cult figure. He was a fine tight corner back but the likes of Ollie Canning, Phillip Larkin, Wayne Sherlock, Mick Kavanagh et al were similar style hurlers who probably had a bit more hurling than him. He would be closer to Gerry O’Grady from the same vintage in my estimations than the lads mentioned above

I think DOG maybe came into his own more after 2010. Reale was one of the best corner backs around

Reale was one of those limerick lads that in my opinion gets very Overrated. He was good but he wasn’t as great as people make out.

Agree but that won’t go down well.

I see Cusack has only the two All Stars but Cummins has 4. That’s some indictment of the awards.

Goalkeeper used to be one of the positions where they’d throw an award to a lad from a weak county who’d never see the light of day otherwise, like Seamus Durack or Damien Martin or Damien Fitzhenry

He done a number on Eoin kelly a few times which is where that comes from.

Ya agreed he has to be on the list.

Davy got blackguarded out of two all stars as well in 1999 and 2005. I’d say he is still utterly livid about it still today

I always thought Reale was a tad over rated also but I wont admit that in front of the Limerick lads.

He was a fine tidy corner back in fairness to him but like O’Grady in Clare he wasn’t in an arses roar of being in consideration of being the best corner back of that era.

In all his years in goal for Kilkenny I can’t recall one notable performance or save James McGarry made. He was most certainly a player who had the fortune of good timing when he came on the scene.

Great poll @Big_Dan_Campbell
Well done on these.

I’m with the majority on this. Tom Kenny for me, day and night.

He’d some defense in front of him too. Hickey, tyrell and Kavanagh.

I should have left Kenny out of it and it would be a very god debate and an argument could be made for nearly all involved.

Reale was class & not over rated. Fuck off ye cunts.

But I’m giving this to Tom Kenny, very surprised he never won one.

Was about to say the same. I don’t know if he was a good keeper. Sure he had fuckall to do back in the day. And it wasn’t as if puckout distribution (in Cody terms, fuck it up to the half forward line and they better win it) was a huge aspect of his game
