John OāBrien was nominated in 09 and 10 (not sure if any other year) but donāt think heād done enough either year to win one. Fine hurler though.
He was handy enough for a couple of years but heās a player that hurling supporters from most other counties would have completely forgotten about by now
I wouldnāt call Ollie Canning a similar style hurler at all, played the same position and there the similarity ends for me. Canning didnāt just have way more hurling than Reale, or than most corner backs, he had more hurling than the vast majority of hurlers full stop. The best corner back ever in my opinion.
You reminded me of another simialar type fantasy team there with Cusack. Off ball did a minor team of the last 25s years type thing.
Would have been really interesting only obvious they didnāt have enough Knowledge to apply the best minors at their relative timeframe but instead kinda took well known mostly established inter county hurlers and worked backwards.
Barely heard of him but I suppose thatās not a surprise as Limerick had a very quiet decade.
He was too inconsistent, but when he hurled well he was an excellent player full of skill. Problem was he was either excellent or non existent for the most part in matches.
it was between him and Benny Dunne for the Tipp nomination went for OāBrien as at his bets he was a better hurler
By the definition of your debate weāre not talking about the best for a position of an era, as those types of players are bound to have won all stars, surely?
Obrien was the most talented hurler on this list by a long way
The thing with McGarry was he was the capt of the defence and he was always the one barking the orders to the full back line. He was too well organised which lead to less shots which lead to less need to make a save.
Played in goal in association football and helped win a Munster Junior League with Midleton by the organisation and marshalling principle - I wasnāt a great shot stopper, shocking kick out off the ground but I could run a defence, hoof a ball out of my hands Ć”la Packie Bonnar and was very good on crosses and dealing with back passes, unlike Packie Bonnar

It all relative, there were numerous corner backs at the time who won all stars ahead of him and deservedly so, hence my point, he was a nice hurler but I doubt any neutral felt he was deserving of an all star over those who won one. There were very few midfielders in the decade who were better than Kenny in his pomp for example.
If you were on the team Iām thinking about you would have had a good back 4. Eugene? Some man to go and win a ball. Alan Keoghan full back? Ma hickey?
Iād prefer a commanding goalie than a watery cunt that was good at stopping shots in any sport
Canning was a narky narky fucker on the field too, helped enormously.
There were also few enough who regularly shut down Eoin Kelly so completely.
Wayne Sherlock was arguably the best corner back of the era (in my opinion) and he was cast aside by his county, Reale wouldnāt have gotten onto some county teams
He was the only player not to start the two final wins wasnāt he.
Why was sherlock fucked off. He was absolutely brilliant. As was the lad who suffered terrible from the migraines.
Got injured and Murphy I think replaced him.
Brian Murphy, he was an excellent defender. Had all the nous.
Pat Mulcahy took Sherlockās place. In fact I recall one of the years Cork starting with Mulcahy at full back and the Rock in the Cork in the championship but switched again as the year went on.
Did he not win an All-Star in 99? , generally got the credit for DJs lack of performance in the final as I remember it.
Pat Mulcahy was playing quite well in his place and it was felt that they shouldnāt change a winning team, Brian Murphy was a lovely corner back as well but not in Sherlocks league, it was scandalous really, mulcahy wasnāt a corner back at all
