For Tipp Iād put Eugene OāNeill ahead of John OāBrien personally.
Redser O Grady for prank calling babs that time.
Yep, Eugene at the heart of the defence. Great man to grab a goal. Pickah, Keochs the odd time at full back but another Limerick man whoās name escapes me, Adrian? I know itās not you Ma was there alright, some midfielder. Eugeneās bro was striker, scored loads.
He was as much at his best in the late 90s as he was in the early 2000s. Fair enough call but OāBrien was a starter for a longer period
All the more galling that Jerry got three all stars and a POTY
Beggars belief quite frankly.
I wouldnāt say that . From 2009 to 2015 Limerick and Dublin were broadly at one level . There was little enough between the teams . Lk werenāt great in 2011 . We lost to Waterford who were in turn obliterated in Munster final . OāGrady brought a bit of discipline back after 2 awful years . He said he was there for 1 year . That said the Lk players were ill suited to the short passing game he advocated .
I just canāt seem to remember OāBrien standing out in many games, whereas OāNeill always stuck in my mind as a lovely stick man.
Paul Ormond(e) was a great corner back in 01 too but he disappeared off the scene soon after because of injury (I think).
Am I the only one who hasnāt a notion who Shane Kavanagh is?
Any limerick fan knows the tipp all Ireland semi was the low point. While the style didnāt suit it improved their hurling no end which we benefited from in 2013. The players knew what to expect from proper coaching and training also. Jerry Wallace was brought into the fold who many players still regard as the best coach theyāve worked under. He stayed around limerick over the next few years and had a huge roll in the development of 13 and 14 minor teams and the team Kyle Hayes was on as well. O Grady bringing Wallace with him was another huge moment in limerick gaa.
He was there from 2001 to 2014. MOTM in the 2008 Munster final, had his best year in 2010 when he was one of the few Tipp players to show up against Cork when they were hammered and was excellent in the semi final win over Waterford as well.
I was at the fecking Munster Final in 08 too. Iām hugely confused
Was it not a low enough shot, two or three feet off the ground all the way, but the sheer power made it unsaveable? One of the few things I remember from the unmemorable 2004 final was Kenny galloping through at a key stage of the second half and scoring a point. It was a classic sort of statement score where you knew Cork would not be denied. I would have thought Kenny would not have been far off Player of the Year that year on my cursory memories of that championship.
He was useful. : had a decent paw but a long way off all star material
Yeah but of the Tipp players of that decade pretty much all of their main men won All stars from the early 2000s team under English or the 2008 onwards Sheedy team.
He was a better hurler than the likes of Benny Dunne, OāBrien, James Woodlock etc who were the other regulars who didnāt get one
He had a very similar run against Clare in the 2005 semi final and sent a shot straight into the bottom right hand corner, somehow Davy managed to get down and save it
Fair enough what you say but my point stands
