Bleeding Radiators

Since defrosting my freezer part of my fridge (which was working overtime because the door won’t shut properly) this problem has not materialised again. I’m going to thank posters for their assistance and deem the issue closed.

Moving on to my next projects:

  1. I have a carpet on the landing that’s wet. It’s outside the bathroom and next to the shower. I presume there has been a leak of some sort. There appears to be a tiny crack between the rubber bit at the top of the shower tray and the leftmost bottom tile. I believe this could be the culprit but there’s no dampness on the landing side of the wall.

What’s my best approach here? I can lift the carpet and see if the floorboards are wet. I’m thinking lift the carpet, apply some sealant to the shower tray in the rogue spot, leave the carpet up for a couple of weeks to give everything a chance to dry. Tack it back down (or more realistically just place it back down and live with it being a bit loose) and get on with my life. Any problems with that?

  1. My hot water cistern is in the garage which is conveniently located at ground level. My main bathroom is upstairs. I have a pump in the garage. The pump is activated whenever the shower comes on or the tap in the bathroom or whatever (or any downstairs tap or toilet other than the mains) and the pressure is excellent.

However when I flush the upstairs toilet the cistern doesn’t start to refill because the pump doesn’t come on and I presume the pressure isn’t good enough without the pump. This has not always been a problem. Previously the pump used to come on and the whole fucking pipe would rattle like fuck because the pressure was too much I presume. At least I think it was rattling, there’d be a humming and a banging noise while the toilet cistern was refilling.

It has just now occurred to me that problems 1 and 2 could be related in that the pipe could have been damaged and that’s why the toilet doesn’t refill anymore and that’s why there’s a damp landing. But that’s not likely I hope because when the shower is on for example the toilet refills pretty quickly, it just doesn’t have the pump coming on when it doesn’t have anything else to trigger it.

Any advice here other than calling a plumber? The toilet definitely used to trigger the pump I think so can’t figure out why not anymore. I did mess about with it to try and stop the banging by “opening a valve” (I’ve no idea if that’s what I did but it’s what I tried to do) to allow a better flow into the toilet which I thought would solve the noise problem. I wasn’t expecting the toilet to not refill at all.

didnt your elder sister do a DIY course before? maybe you culd go to her with your queries in future?

+1

Failing that Rocko, you should knock the house down and build it again to get rid of these problems once and for all…

I hope you didn’t fork out to much for that dump Rocko

Anyone recommend something for repairing a deep scratch on a wooden table top?

Sand the rest of it down to the same level.

Good suggestion

No problem Buddy

Put a tablecloth over it

A table cloth wouldn’t be suitable in this instance but thanks for the suggestion Chewy.
I appreciate you making the effort to help me find a solution.

Chip away at it until you form a hole that can be used as a cup holder.

What about a bowl of ornamental wax fruit?

Again a good suggestion, but again not really feasible in this situation as the scratch stretches approximately 12" (it’s slightly smaller than my cock) along the table.

How big is the table and whereabouts is the scratch located. It may be easier for us to help if you posted a picture of said table

Dark wood or light?

How deep is the scratch ? What type of wood ?

Could you use a bit of bees wax filler and varnish ?

Also what kind of finish is on it? Is it just stained or waxed or varnished?

The Runt has just sent me an IM telling me that the table is made of ply wood and he is going to fill the scratch with Tipex

I was actually expecting it to be chipboard ,OSB or MDF . So plywood is a step up.
