PJ Cuddy was a big name in the 80s I’d say was he, he often featured in my personal commentaries while I was belting the ball around the garden playing for Ireland against Scotland, probably the only fella from a lesser county to be picked.
He was a great player alright. It’s an awful pity in hindsight that the mid 80s laois team didn’t win a leinster.

Absolutely, could have changed hurling in the county forever. Instead Offaly got a goal that went through the side netting and the rest is history. The careers of Critchley, PJ, John Taylor and Joe Dollard deserved a Leinster.
However as William Munny would say, deserves got nothing to do with it.

There was a player. Saw him a few times for Laois and once in a club tournament game. Not the biggest or the fastest but he was a fine center back

Hurled into his 50s iirc and turned into a right nasty bastard towards the end. But he had it all, and as for the ability to skelp, well he was Camross after all, and abided by the Camross rule, you don’t start it, but by fuck you finish it.

There was a Christy Jones played around that era too. A wing back I think. A great hurler but he may have been a bit of a desperado? He didn’t seem to be around very long.
