I organise the matches & watch down from my ivory tower. You know that already.
Anyone watching The Sunday Game in the 1980s would know who PJ Cuddy was in fairness.
If they caught that particular episode in early June.
But I agree with the posters who think he was a big name around that time. Heavily featured in the various GAA mags and annuals which were much more important then than now.
+1. I remember loads of players from the weaker counties in the 1980s based on GAA annuals and magazines like Gaelic World - Seamus Durack, PJ Cuddy, Leonard Enright, David Kilcoyne, Dessie Donnelly, Noel Sands, Bryan McMahon and so on.
I see what you did there…
Interesting that you mention them lads, George O Connor was another that would sometimes get a run out as a sub for my Irish team in the back garden with Michael O hehir commentating.
You were not alone chief. While I wasn’t quite international, Limerick won seven in a row from 1980 to 1986. Liam McCarthy was an old Castrol GTX can that was hoisted with pride. The auld speeches didn’t do go too well, though
Remember a GAA board game in mid 80s.
If weather was bad and I couldn’t win the All-Irelands outside I would arrange to win it via this method.
God I was easily amused as a young lad
With a name like Ralphie you never stood a chance.
I fellow called Ralph, Ralph Callaghan played for Tipp in the 1984 Munster final. I think Ralph was from Carrick.
Is it any wonder the game has declined - soft townie cunts from “better-off” parents buying these “games”.
Better off flinging the wains out the fucking door to harden them up.
How the fuck do ye’ cunts @Bandage scored all them points (12) in the county final U-12…
Hardly from studying PJ Cuddy’s style - naw, from the Mammy tossing the fat cunt out he door to toughen him up and learn him to be the street-fighter he is today…
The oul’ wans though saw his soft side and coddled him - hence his grá for the neighbours.
That’s it.
I guided Wexford to multiple All Irelands on it.
Strangely enough mine was given to me by a priest/coach. I earned it in some sort of training competition. No sexual favours were exchanged.*
Board games have gone into decline since which is a bit of a loss I think.
*as far as I can recall.
It was pretty good I think. I remember there being a crossed flags card you could play where you could get the umpires to rule out a score whenever you played it. I think it was the inspiration for hawkeye.
Would you be flinging them through an open door or a closed door?
Open door. We don’t want reviving the DIY thread.
An accompanying boot in the hole to confirm the urgency.
