Uncomfirmed reports of an explosion within the last few minutes in Beijing’s pride and joy the new CCTV tower(large twisted doughnut style familiar from Olympics and the symbol of a new world leader’s progression). A mate of mine who lives nearby can see it and has confirmed it’s ablaze. You can see the glow from my apartment. Reports will be hazy tonight as it’s the last night of the Spring festival so it’s like Beirut with the amount of Fireworks so the City is covered in smoke from the gunpowder anyway. They love their fireworks over here. It’s mental.

It’s reportedly gutted thirty floors of the building initially ablaze, the Mandarin Oriental hotel(next door to the CCTV). 99% sure it was the rockets that started it. Rumours are of one dead. The mentlers are still setting off fireworks like it’s Gaza.
Xi Jinping ‘Thought’ is to be formally adopted as part of the CCP’s constitution. No one in the West seems to know what it means but he’s only the 3rd leader after Mao and Deng Xiaoping to have his theories elevated to that status.
The Yanks love to use capitalism to explain China’s emergence, which makes no sense at all when you compare it to India. In 1950 both of them were similarly poor. Now India is still an impoverished shit hole despite slavishly neoliberal policies, while China has a 500% larger gdp per capita and is a global superpower.
China is THE global superpower. Xi in his excellent speech to the party in the great hall of the people yesterday was outlining their strategic plans to 2030. The US barely has any idea what it’s doing tomorrow morning.
Why would you compare China and India, two countries that have almost nothing in common other than large populations? India in terms of how fragmented it is politically, culturally and socially has more in common with the continent of Africa than China. India has a long way to go, but economic growth in China has been slowing since 2012 and growing more rapidly in India. There is no fundamental reason why both can’t be economic superpowers. The risks in China are 1) western companies going else where for low cost (already happening), 2) a collapse of its property market which is in a massive bubble, and 3) the government making a major fuck up in trying to control markets .
China has emerged over the past 30 years as a global economic superpower because 1) it abandoned state socialism (and it’s partnership with the USSR) and adopted a free market economy, and 2) the industrialized west has used China as it’s primary low cost manufacturing base. China has gone from 100% of it’s GDP being generated by state owned enterprises to 2/3 now being produced by the private sector. More than 90% of jobs created in China are in the private sector. That’s called capitalism not socialism.
As for India being a shithole, depends where you go really, like China. Plenty of China a shithole too by western standards.
Christ, these lads using China’s abandonment of state socialism and it’s embracing of capitalism to bring prosperity to their country as a means to trumpet the merits of socialism.
You couldn’t make it up.
