In other news, sterling unexpectedly held its current value after comments by Angela Merkel that it may be possible to remain in the free trade area whilst capping immigrant numbers.
Capping immigration from the EU is fucking stupid in any case. They should look to curb numbers from Pakistan and other such countries who’s natives refuse to integrate before pointing the finger at Europe.

It’s stupid to look at immigration on its own because it’s tied up with so many other issues.

The weirdest thing about it all is that Western Europe needs immigrants to drive the growth that will pay its pensions down the line. But an increasing number of voters don’t (and arguably) shouldn’t give a shit about that because (1) they’re not looking forward to a comfortable retirement anyway and (2) because they don’t benefit from any of that growth. When working people gain nothing from growth, why should they support the dilution of their own labour power for the sake of bigger bonuses in the City or on Wall Street?
