No, they live in Northern Ireland mate, thats the entire issue.
349,000 voted leave in Northern Ireland in 2016. 290,000 voted DUP in 2017, 80,000 voted UUP and 60,000 voted alliance. I’d say there is close to 100% correlation on those numbers between voting leave and voting DUP so all Sammy is doing is faithfully representing the wishes of his constituents however misguided we might think they are.
The problem with that argument, as with the whole Brexit thing is that people voted for something that was too ill-defined. Nobody knew what they were really voting for - not even the remainers as a lot of them wanted to stay but change things in the relationship.
I’d say a hell of a lot of them voted leave simply because the other crowd were voting remain.

There’s something to be said for that argument. Another thing is the sort of residual resentment of Europe going back to the days Papa Doc & the fundamentalists preached that the Treaty of Rome was the anti-christ’s subversive plot to build a modern Tower of Babel and destroy christianity.
Close enough, with the Unionists who voted to Stay being Alliance/non voters normally.
