If there is a “hard border “ on this island post Brexit there is one one EU state who will be enforcing said border .
There has to he a hard border. You can’t have two different regulatory frameworks operating without border controls.

The “deal” was crafted to ensure no hard border. No deal inevitably means that there will be border controls - a hard border. The inevitable conclusion is that the EU (which includes Ireland) will have to enforce that border to protect their trading zone.

The way it is now is that there will be a border if we Europeans accede to the UK request to remove the backstop and a border if there is no deal. So there will be a border In either of the two options the English have left us. Personally I would pick the option that inflicts most damage on the English.
