BREXIT thread

Brexit means Brexit.

So can we call it now that there’ll be no Brexit?

You can but it could change in the next hour depending on what Arlene says.

But the EU don’t want a short extension.

What would be the point? May has already wasted the last three months. What difference would another two make? It just delays the possibility of no deal.

Which is why the EU have suggested that if there has to be an extension, it should be until the end of 2020 (with, hopefully, a different government).

Fintan O’Toole set out today the 4 ways left that this could go: hard Brexit, they take the deal, they take a deal that is closer to Europe (labour proposal), or referendum and they decide to stay.

Three of those satisfy the Irish concerns regarding the border. And it looks like there is a hardening consensus in the UK not to allow a hard Brexit. So we have played this one nicely and it looks whatever the outcome is it will satisfy our main concerns. (Brexit with the current deal will still negatively affect our economy though).

What ya mean wasted the last 3 months? They have wasted that last 2 years with this shit.

What ya mean wasted the last two years? They have wasted the last three decades with this shit.

A bigoted little dimwit who couldn’t run a geography class has got to play at being a world leader for two years, so not at all a waste of time from her point of view.
Manufacturing jobs are for the little people, and bombing is over there.

No deal is not off the table, and not off the table for March 29th either.

A short extension (let’s say June 29th, for argument’s sake) just kicks the can a small bit with no real change from current circumstances.

But what happens if the EU refuse a short extension and only offer a long one?

What happens if the Brits refuse a long extension?

No deal is the default, and it’s not enough for the House of Commons to vote against it, something positive has to be approved to prevent it.

The bbc will pull some mouth breathers off the streets to shout at the camera for the news tonight.

Id imagine that in that level of turmoil, the EU will offer an extension, the length of which will be a negotiation

If they end up in a take the deal or hard Brexit scenario they’ll take the deal. This is May’s plan.

This is how it has panned out. I doubt mays planning had anything to do with it. A banana in charge would have ended in the same result. It depends. I still think that witch’s "deal"is the likely outcome by default, but there are others.

It may be her plan but it’s an incredibly dangerous plan which could lead to no deal. Parliamentary paralysis has led to this situation and people shouldn’t be under any illusions that that paralysis can suddenly lift.

Yeah, but would the length of the extension be subject to a parliamentary vote, or just whether there is an extension or not?

If the former, they’re in trouble.

Is this Peter Kyle amendment going before parliament or what? That Labour vote for May’s deal on condition that it be put to a public vote versus Remain?

Farage said this morning that he would boycott any second referendum. Getting his excuses in early.

Simples.

A straight banana or a bendy banana?

It’s been her plan for a long time IMO, string it out, play for time, try to bring it down to a last minute parliament vote between her deal or hard Brexit without getting detailed by another referendum or a closer deal. Confident that when it comes down to the wire she will get a majority in parliament to vote to avoid hard Brexit.

The ever reliable Paddy Power prices a no deal Brexit at 9/2 now. It was 5/2 yesterday.
