BREXIT thread

Agreed. Or possibly on 12 April. Or sometime after both those dates. Or never. Strong and stable.

Ok guys enough articles from pro remain rags like the Guardian and the FT. We’re in danger of group think here.

Need to balance reading Guardian articles with listening to a bit of Edwina Curry’s pragmatic pro-Brexit rhetoric on Pat Kenny. They just need to get on with it really, the world will keep turning.

I know he is a bit of a whipping boy around here but in fairness to the harmless simpleton @Horsebox he has been the one pro brexit voice on the forum

Nothing we haven’t stated here a million times - Like I said a while back, there is an identity crisis at the heart of Brexit - it’s the English and their place in the world that’s largely at the bottom of it and of course it’s being manipulated by the rotten cunts in Westminster like Mogg, Johnson et al … at the heart of the crisis among the average Joe is a generational crisis … anyone over 40, the children and the grandchildren of the war generation - are obsessed with ww2, Germany and English greatness… O’Toole was on the money when he said that England found itself in a position that no other country had done before – they won a major conflict but within a short period found itself poorer than those that were defeated. You had children and grand children of those who lived during the war hearing about Britain’s resolve, the blitz, the Battle of Britain, defeating fascism etc. etc and then looking around at shithouse cities like Sunderland, Burnley, Hull, Telford and thinking ‘where the fuck is our Jerusalem’ … the streets of these cities then became more brown as the affects of colonization came home to roost and the natives started thinking ‘maybe this is fucking Jerusalem’ … They began to view Europe as German rule - the same country they had defeated was now out producing them in every way …

Of course younger Brits dont carry as much of this mentality for the most part - where they do it’s through poverty and extremism… but they see themsleves as part of the wider world and certainly Europe in a way their parents never could… but they still hold prejudices of the past in their subconscious, how could they not - it’s ingrained… just like the most evolved Irish person will still hold a degree of it towards Britain.

The scotch, Irish and to a lesser extent the Welch see themselves through the prism of colonization first - their impulse is Britain and their relationship to England, in past, present and future … it’s a natural process for people that have been colonized … but it’s very blurred due to geographical proximity and dual nationality / identity within each region.

The various unions were built on quicksand - British might (money) and military were able to prop it up for centuries but as constitutional politics and the franchise was opened to all men (women) the wrongs of the past have been slowly chipped away at … No longer can the tans buy off landed types to sustain things. And that brings it right back to today - it is, and always has been, about London. NI is in a redundant state economically and relies on 10bn a year handouts exactly because they are tied to England. Scotland more or less the same. By continuing to prop up a bullshit Union built on sustaining England (London) they are driving nails into their own coffins .

A Union only works when all parties are equal and have an equal say - the English mentality( that we’ve known to always have existed) that has been on display during Brexit should highlight to the average intelligent person living in NI/Scotland that still cling to Britishness - that they are not equal nor will they ever be - Not even in the eyes of the younger Tans - We will always be lesser beings - This is held up by historical, cultural, educational and economical prejudice / racism that has been at play for centuries… Paddy Irish man, Paddy Scotch man … the dehumanizing of the Irish goes right back to Elizabeth I’s reign and was rife in open society right up to very recently - You dont undo this over night.

A new relationship between these isles is badly needed - The GFA was the start of it … But Brexit has shown that as long as England has a say on this Island, they will cast our people to the wolves in a heartbeat. Ireland needs to unite and stand alone. So does Scotland… Fuck the Welch… A future political arrangement where all four countries send political representatives to meet and make decisions for the region as whole is not something that I’d rule out - but only as equals and not under the rule or allegiance of 1 entity over the others. Will it happen? doubtful … But what a time to be alive though.

Outside the Jacks actually.

Fagan on the money as always… it will continue to be '09 '14 every few years until we go our own way.

Is this Brexit or Liverpool winning the league you’re referring to?

The Republic of Liverpool has a nice ring to it …

Thatcher once joked to Haughey “we’ll give you back the North if you give us back Liverpool”*.

*May have been Fitzgerald, not Haughey, may be an urban legend, and it’s not as if Thatcher ever wanted Liverpool, because she wasn’t wanted there. Lexit has already been done anyway.

This would be more appropriate for Theresa May:
