Disagree. Everything about Ireland’s economy, influence and place in the world is based on openness, coalition building and multilateralism. Look at where Britain’s thinking like an island has gotten them.

It’s more a London centric and Westminister mindset than anything else. This was fine until the 1990s.
There has been plenty of excellent Political Editors and Correspondants over the years but the BBC et al did not properly pivot when they needed to.
You meant we have to recognise that any other country will fuck us over in a second and not place too much faith in anyone. You are right.

We need to be protected from our own though. While the EU may ride us from time to time they won’t ride us half as hard our own politicians. EU is lesser of two evils.

The comments section in the Guardian today is great reading. The seethe is palpable.
Its fertile ground for any WUMIT as even the slightest contradictory comment will catch 30 fish. If the pre LD Tassoti steamed in with his Brexit means Brexit mantra the server would crash.
