You should be ashamed to say you work in IT. It’s Mbps, unless you rate connection speeds in Bytes.
Pedantic much?
3MBps is 24Mbps, incredibly misleading to the TFK community.
Yerra, they’ll be grand.
Anyone with Virgin Media having issues tonight ?
Yep. Not working in D4.
Anyone had a modem replaced by Virgin lately? Our one is a good few years old and acting up a lot outside of tonight’s issue. Any idea of cost?
A quick search of Twitter suggests virgin is down in numerous places around the country
Yes
If you change your DNS to use Googles (8.8.8.8) you should be fine
Are we under attack?
Why would that have worked last night?
My connection was also down
From what I gather the Virgin Media DNS Servers were either down or under attack.
Their routers would be set to use Virgins own DNS servers, but you can change the DNS server you use either on your PC or on the router itself.
A DNS server is basically a giant address book that translates text into IP Addresses. If the DNS server is down then your browser doesn’t know where to go to find the web addresses you type into your browser.
What’s their broadband like generally pal?
Outstanding.
They on the other hand are cunts. But then again, they all are.
Vodafone last night, on hold for 20 minutes after being advised wait time was 4 minutes. Hung up, rang in again requested a call back. Got call back which put me on hold for 12 minutes. Hung up, requested call back which put me on hold for 15 minutes. Hung up again, didn’t talk to one person throughout this. Cunts with a capital C.
Shortened the spin up the M7 anyway.
You could easily swap NTL/UPC/Virgin in for Vodafone and that entire exchange wouldn’t differ.
Just tried that call back service again, to be put on hold again. Who the fuck rings you to put you on hold? I’m nearly seething here.
Can I advise contacting them via social media. I generally find a far better level of service to be found on there.
Generally it’s very good mate to be fair. They are increasing their rates from next month though
