Bundesliga 2010/11

German season started today for top flight teams with cup games.

Leverkusen were 0-1 up away at Pirmasens at half time and scored 10 second half goals so far (and conceded one) to go 11-1 up.

Newly promoted St Pauli beaten at Chemnitzer FC.

Stuttgart recovered from a goal down to beat Babelsberg 1-2.

I see Per Mertesacker fractured his eye socket last night and will miss Bremen’s game against Spurs next week

Bad old injury to get. Thanks for taking an interest in my country Puke.

Rocko, how strong is Schalke’s midfield? Will they challenge for the title with Raul and Huntelaar upfront and having brought Metzelder back to shore up their defence?

No problem rocko, I plan on keeping a keen eye on the Bundesliga to see how my new flavour of the month is doing…Please keep me posted with any news regarding Richard Sukatu Pasu and his progress

Well they got Jurado from your beloved Atletico Madrid as you know but they’re not as strong in midfield as they are up top.

You’ll probably remember the youngster Kenia from Georgia who caused us problems in recent qualifying games. Still a kid, but a prospect. Other than that they have Rakitic who is tidy enough, Baumjohann (ex-hope at Bayern but not great) and a few more average enough lads - Moritz, Jermaine Jones…

Interesting to see how they go with that front line but fingers crossed they implode after die Weihnachtspause again.

I intend to see St Pauli live this season so hope to see the object of your affections in the flesh.

stupendous

Strange opening to the Bundesliga with Hoffenheim matching their form from a couple of years back and sharing an early lead with Mainz. Three of the teams expected to challenge for the title are propping up the table - Wolfsburg, Stuttgart and Schalke all have zero points from 3 games. McClaren not having a great start, Hoeness is having a few comments in the media about changing the system… Steve saying it’s early yet.

Just had an absolute classic in the second division tonight. Cottbus went 2-0 at home to Karlsruhe, then conceded 5 to trail with 25 minutes go and had it all square with 18 minutes to go with 3 quick goals. And it finished like that 5-5.

I see Breman were well beaten tonight while Munich had a decent win over Hoffenheim, Muller scoring…

2 bad defeats in a row now for Bremen, Mainz won again last night to make it 5 from 5.

Poor old Pauli were robbed on Saturday in the derby, HunSV equalised with 2 mins to go in the Millerntor… :frowning:

Mainz win again, this time most impressively away in the Allianz Arena.

Dortmund up to 2nd, the team to beat for me.

We’re making plans to see FCB and St. Pauli early this December. Anyone been to Munich, any advice etc. etc.

I’d like to see Dortmund winning it but can’t see it happening. They’re having a great start to the season though and have been progressively improving each season. Still haven’t put together a consistent run of a couple of months so that’s the next challenge.

never been

yeah & Yeah…

Bump the thread closer to the time Franno. Munich is a great spot.

Was in the Millerntor for promotion party last year, savage weekend. 70,000 on the Reeperbahn.

7 wins on spin for Mainz now. Dortmund beat FC Hollywood 2-0 which cleary spells out their potential to win it this season imo. The team to beat without any doubt.

result of the weekend though was marvelous Pauli winning away to CL chasing Hannover. Tremendous stuff from our boys.

PS- Anyone see football focus on Saturday? Had a report on St Pauli and the Hamburg derby last weekend. It was well worth watching.

Read some good articles on Thomas Tuchel, the Mainz manager, recently.

Interesting character with a more than decent record. He’s quite vocal on tactics and not afraid to analyse his opposition. Learned his trade as a player under the innovative Ralf Rangnick. Rangnick brought unprecedented success to Ulm before decent but mixed spells at Stuttgart and Schalke and then he repeated the Ulm story at Hoffenheim. He’s a “football nerd” famous for using diagrams on television and for studying every nuance of Saachi’s Milan to bring those tactics to the Bundesliga. He singlehandedly did away with the sweeper system in German football.

Anyway Tuchel isn’t Rangnick but he’s from that breed. Interesting characters. What Tuchel is achieving at Mainz at the moment, though it’s early days obviously, is superb.

I watched some Bundesliga at the weekend, which is rare enough for me. Cracking header by the St Pauli boy to seal the win for them; also a lovely freekick for one of the Dortmund goals, while Ivica Olic had a comedy open goal miss from no more than 2 yards out in that game. Neuer was a bit suspect from a cross for the decisive goal in Schalke’s loss and that’s the main (possibly only) weakness in his game.

U bahn users in Stuttgart won’t have to share a seat with Christian Gross anymore, was sacked last night after Vfb’s poor start.
