Calling Carryharry

€200. The control unit in the boot was faulty. He managed to get a second hand one. New one would have been very expensive he said. Didn’t even quote.

Always get a price on the new part, mate. The fact he didn’t price it seems dodgy.

A quick call to a Renault dealer will set your mind at ease plus what’s to say the used unit won’t get faulty in a month.

Well @carryharry what would your opinion be on these?

142 Hyundai iX35
170,000 Km
1.7 Diesel
€10K

152 Renault Captur
100,000 Km
1.5 Diesel
€11K

I’m not been funny I wouldn’t touch either of the two. You’d probably get a 161 golf next year for 11k . Diesel is a wank unless you are doing serious driving

I think the passengers in the back might be a consideration here

We need something fairly high off the ground like an SUV. Meets our needs…
It’s kind of an A or B choice here.

Something like a crane would be high ,

I drive an IX35 (131)
I bought it 2.5 years ago with around 150k on the clock. It wasn’t what I was in the market for but I ended up with one.

It has not given me an ounce of bother. It’s grand to drive and a grand wagon if you’ve a little one to fire in and out of the back. I had a 10 Octavia prior to that, which absolutely broke my heart. You can get lucky or unlucky with cars.

I have the fear of ever going near a Renault.

The iX35 is not as efficient diesel wise as the Octavia, but on the plus side, I haven’t to date being tempted to take a sledgehammer to it

I had a Renault 25 or 30 years ago. The engine rotted. Seriously. Never again.

Captur is basically a Qashqai.

I’d see it being better value for €1000 more with way lower mileage tbh. Plus you’re running close to a timing belt replacement in the I35 I’d imagine.

You have/had I think a Koleos so you would be buying something similar in the Captur.

Don’t know a whole pile about the I35 tbh but with mileage at 170,000km check all ball joints, shocks etc and just be aware it may need a few quid spent for next NCT etc.

Hapes of shite

You weren’t the first Renault owner that happened to. Or the last.

Timing chains on the Hyundais

Regular oil changes an absolute must so as poor changing of oil will lead to chain wear which worst case could see it jump and fuck the engine.

Looks like she’s going for the Hyundai. Once again thanks for your help on this.
Much appreciated!

@carryharry Harry. I have a 15 A6 sline. What pressure should I have in the tyres?

30 should be fine

No manual come with it? Try the inside of the door panel. An A6 S-line you say… Depreciation central.

@carryharry . Car is being changed on January. I can go for another astra or a hybrid Corolla. I like the astra but the Corolla is a tasty looking car. We have to have our choice made by Friday. What ya reckon?

I have absolutely nothing to say here mike. I’m not biting my lip etc. Honest.
