I’ve my mind made up. I want out.
Should be able to find something alright. Automation is a good sector to be involved in at the moment.
I’ll do my research alright.

There’s more to life than Cork
There’s more to Cork than life.
I’d say he can’t get out of there quick enough, there’s a right few TFK unfortunates exiled down there, tough station
Go travelling while you’re young @Copper_pipe, I’d say you’ve a right bundle of savings
not exactly the right thread for this.
Moving from one place to another, people don’t leave jobs they leave management.
The best of luck with it.
And that’s not an insult, that, is just a fact of life
Thinking of leaving my job but have nothing lined up at present. Been in the company 20+ years. Very stressful role and for me it’s just not worth it anymore. Have savings so won’t be on the bread line straight away or anything. Just feel I need an extended break to recharge and clear the head before I go again.
Any one of ye ever do something similar? Am I mad to even consider just walking away?
I walked away from a stressful job without anything lined up. It was incredibly toxic and I couldn’t stick it. So just walked out. I took the job in a panic after getting a redundancy with a new kid and house etc so I got caught. I never made that mistake again nor will I , took my time, weighed up everything and it worked out. There’s always work out there
Don’t walk out, never leave a job when you are suffering from work related stress or burnout. Consult a GP and take sick leave, use this time to recover and then look for a new role if that’s what you want to do.
I’ve taken a three month break between jobs. After 20 years of working it’s no harm to have a recharge. You won’t want to go back to work though.
I gave up a reasonably decent gig because I was miserable and stressed out nearly every single morning going into the office. Like pure heart pounding on the drive into work 5 days a week. I was about 4 years in when I thought to myself let’s hold off quitting for another while till I had something lined up. Unfortunately, as my experience didn’t really translate to external roles, I didn’t have much luck. Eventually it all comes to a head and I knew that after talking to a GP that the job wasn’t worth it, physically or mentally. Gave 2 weeks notice and immediately felt a massive weight off my shoulders. There was a lot of pushback from bosses to stay but I was honest and stood my ground that I was cracking in the role. By the time I finished up I actually left on great terms and was told I’d be welcomed back if I had a change of heart.
Took a couple of months out on the artistic allowance and landed a nice stepping stone role about 4 months after I quit the prior job. Not even a year after that I landed a fantastic job during covid lockdown.
I believe that if a job is really wearing you down that no amount of sick leave/sabbatical is going to change things. Only you can judge that though.
But had you the new job lined up before you walked?
English-speaking roasters are very desirable over
Even countrrry Limerick wans
Would be better to be drawing the wage while you figure out what you need to do rather than the artistic allowance, I frequently see people take 2-3 months leave due to burnout, some return to work, others find a new job and quit.
Ah I have been to a gp and taken time off. Not on sick leave. I had a ball of time built up. I just feel after 20 odd years I need a change. Just not motivated by it any more. Used to live work but now I just push myself to go in tbere. Quitting is the nuclear option but I have spoken to the wife about it and she is ok with it. She can see it in me and says it no worth it. Sleep is gone to pot. It’s a great role and great pay and benefits but it’s not for me any longer.
I think all jobs have become a lot more stressful since the pandemic. Why? I don’t know but looking at my colleagues there are a lot of them close to the edge for sure
look after yourself first and foremost. You don’t owe them anything
Working from home isnt good for anyone long term.
Being in the office is healthier generally. Definitely a balance is good anyway between both.
