Hard to believe Greavsie outlasted him.

Greavsie’s still alive? Christ, I thought he died years ago.

I saw a picture of poor Greavsie recently and he looks in bad shape. A git of a stroke.

What a player though. His goalscoring record is still the greatest in English League history. That says it all really.

He has passed the chequered flag for the final time.

RIP.

:scream: 97. A good innings.

I did the bulk of my F1 watching to the tones of Peter Collins and Dave Kennedy on RTÉ, but I would have caught the odd race on the Beeb and ITV. One of those was Hill’s win in Japan in the early hours of an October morning in 1996 at my grandparent’s house. You can really sense the emotions from Murray here as Hill banishes his demons and completes a final bittersweet lap in a Williams. Ar dheis Dé etc.

An iconic commentator. Up there with the likes of Peter Aliss and Bill McClaren as the definitive voice of their sport.

Christ I’m old enough to remember listening to James Hunts win in Japan on bbc radio

The original F1 game on the PS1. Years of my childhood playing it with Murray commentating

Indeed. 1976. I just about remember it as well. One of my earliest childhood sporting memories. Nikki Lauda led going into that last round in Japan by a few points. The race took place after a monsoon. Lauda quit in the pits after a few laps saying the track was too dangerous. The bulldog spirit of James Hunt was not to be denied and he finished sufficiently high to finish 1 point ahead of Lauda.

Thought he was long gone.

I had a matchbox model of his car. A Hesketh Ford I think.

That would have been a tad before my time.

Less than three months after Lauda’s near fiery death tbf to him.
