Didn’t realise he was “only” 80.
Watts was always known for his sartorial elegance and was a temperate drinker if at all. It’s 4 or 5am in the morning in their hotel in LA back in the day and Jagger rings his room to summon him to a meeting there and then in the hotel lobby. Charlie rises, showers and puts on a clean shirt, tie and suit.
When he reaches the lobby he finds Jagger in conclave with some business sorts. Jagger introduces Watts to the entourage as “This is my drummer Charlie Watts”…
Charlie wags the finger gently summoning Jagger, who takes a couple of steps forward to be met with a fucking haymaker into the mouth. “Take that you prick, you’re my singer, never forget that” waved to the suits and rambles back to bed……
