One of the greats. Widely respected on both sides of the great Glasgow football divide and across football.
RIP Walter. As you’ve said, he was one of the few to transcend the divide in Glasgow. He was very good friends with the late Tommy Burns and a pallbearer at his funeral.
A colossus of the Scottish soccer scene. A loss that will be keenly felt by all followers of Scottish soccer I’m sure, including the sizeable contingent of Scottish soccer enthusiasts on here.

Walter and Ally paid their respects at Celtic Park the morning Tommy’s death was announced and their grief was obvious.
A gesture that all proper Celtic fans appreciated. And there will be Celtic men and women paying their respects at Ibrox today.

Please mate, im interested in your point about Walter Smith transcending the divide, when he was a manager at Rangers he was hated, he got on well with Tommy Burns which is great but i dont have a memory of anyone Celtic fan being positive towards him,like they would about Mccoist or Konterman
