Celtic January 2015 Transfer Thread
I see Ronny was speaking glowingly of Griffiths today, I have to say Griffiths has started to win me around after being very skeptical of his arrival this time last year. He has his limitations but his attitude seems to be good and he’s a very busy player up front, his goalscoring record would be very good when you equate it into goals per minutes I’d imagine as well.

The biggest plus point with Ronny for me has been the way he has handled the squad this season, compared to that cunt Lennon who would consistently fuck the team about so he could fit in his favourites like Commons and Hooper irrespective of their form, the form of the other players or the team balance, Ronny has brought a sense of meritocracy to Celtic this year. Whoever gets the jersey looks to have deserved it with their attitude and form, do you think Lennon would have had the balls to drop Guidetti? I don’t.

I hope Ronny remains at Celtic Park for a long time to come. Back to the transfer activity, do we think Armstrong will arrive before the window closes? With Kayal going I would be hopeful we might bring in another midfielder. I was hoping for some defensive reinforcements but it doesn’t look like anything will happen there before the close of the month unfortunately.
Yeah it’s looking like a quiet window. Did we get a few quid for Kayal? Hope he does well with Brighton. It went horrible for him, and some of his performances were disgraceful (Kilmarnock away for example) but he was superb when he first got into the team and bossed a couple of games against the huns. Mulgrew returning to fitness should take some pressure off the midfield, and we’ve added Henderson to the mix, but we’re still definitely short in that area.

Will we do anything, bhoys?

Buy Mackay-Stevens for a nominal fee instead of acquiring him for free in the summer.

Announce a new deal for Kris Commons.

We’ve had a £1.5m bid for Stuart Armstrong rejected. Burnley had a lower bid rejected too.

Jim Spence reporting we will be upping our bid to £2m + addons.

Linked with a pre contract move for Bakkali this evening. Seems way too positive to be true.

Who be he?

Young lad (20ish) playing for PSV

Been strongly linked with Valencia and not as strongly with Stoke City, as well as Celtic.

He seems to be very highly rated

Highly doubtful I would agree.

Michael Duffy, 20 year old Derry City winger looks to be signing tomorrow.

Looks like they’ve a deal to bring Mackay Steven in now, I honestly don’t see the rush in this one. I think it’s an area we are already stacked in at the minute and are better off waiting until we get shot of Tonev and Wakaso in the summer. I wouldn’t mind seeing another central midfielder brought in but it’s not that much an urgency either as we have Johansen, Brown, Bitton, Mulgrew and Henderson there at the minute which should be enough. I’m really disappointed we didn’t try for a centre back this window as we all know Van Dijk will be away next summer and Denayer’s future uncertain. I can’t believe someone bid £3m for Ambrose and we turned it down, surely that was just paper talk?

Eoghan O’Connell has signed a new 2-year contract.

Dundee United have turned down a third bid from us for Stuart Armstrong. The bid was believed to be £1.6m but they’re looking for £2m+.

Mackay-Steven is expected to join tonight.

Glad we didn’t pursue Eoin Doyle who’s completing a medical with Cardiff.

Linked with young Kilmarnock striker Robbie Muirhead too.

Bids accepted for Armstrong and Mackay-Steven, undergoing medicals now apparently.

We seem to have agreed a deal for Armstrong and Mackay Stephen now. £2m for both.

Sort of agree that we don’t need another winger now but Wakaso had a large value on his purchase option I think and therefore probably won’t be retained. We’ve had problems in recent seasons in not bringing in players soon enough ahead of early European games so this gives us a chance to get Armstrong and GMS embedded in the team.

Fully agreed on lack of a centre back. If we were offered cash for Ambrose that we could have paid for someone else, it’s hard to believe we’d stick with Ambrose.

Where do we see Armstrong playing? Think he’ll be competing for a place with Stokes on the left although all the three players playing off the striker are fairly interchangeable.

I’d say it will most likely be:

Mackay-Steven/Forrest----------Johansen/Commons----------Stokes/Armstrong

Can’t see Wakaso and Tonev seeing much action for the rest of the season.

BT Sport reporting that we’re looking at bringing McGeady back in the summer. Not sure there’s much in that, why would we be looking now to bring him in then? He’d need to be taking a significant wage cut to return, but maybe he’s earned enough by now.

Unreal, unbelievable.

Bring him home!!
