Always an idea
I found in Glasgow if you don’t go looking for trouble you won’t find it. People are lovely.
If you do go looking for it however
Can i just remind posters that this thread should not be in use today.
Thread on Celtic’s financial results from Swiss Ramble. Some comparisons between Celtic’s and Rangers’ operating models (cc @Bisto).
Celtic’s negotiations with Josip Juranovic over a new contract have been unsuccessful.
The club are now braced for bids following the conclusion of the World Cup where Juranovic is representing Croatia.
If any jobbing EPL club has tapped him up, Celtic won’t get in the wages ballpark
Atletico Madrid were scouting him last season & Rodgers was too apparently for Leicester.
Iv to be cautious commenting on Celtic fullbacks after all the abuse I got for some very mild criticism about Kieran Tierney, who is now Arsenal’s 3rd choice left back. But isn’t Juranovic a bit small and light for football at the very top level, and with no blistering pace to compensate for that? I’d imagine Celtic would be delighted to trouser a few million profit for him as he wouldn’t be the most difficult of players to replace.
My Arsenal supporting pal tells me Tierney is second choice left back and the right footed Japanese chap got the nod at left back for a couple of specific assignments when Zinchenko was injured, e.g. to mark Salah who cuts inside all the time and that suited a right footer! Tierney was apparently on the naughty step for not reporting a niggle late last season and trying to play through it, which exacerbated it and he then missed the last portion of the season when they dropped out of the CL places. He predicts that Tierney will firmly re-establish him after the World Cup after being restored gradually in Europe, League Cup etc.
I digress. Juranovic is light alright but most footballers are these days. He’s deceptively good in the air and I think he’s very fast and has proper recovery pace. That said, that Shakhtar chap Mudryk’s speed and acceleration is on another dimension and he scored home and away v Celtic and troubled Juranovic. He hasn’t played as well this season, which might suggest he’s been sidetracked by the World Cup and summer links to La Liga and the EPL. He’s technically very good and comfortable on the ball. There are Celtic fans who think Ralston is better though. Anyone can be replaced and Celtic know this will crop up all the time when players do well and attract interest from big 5 leagues. £20mn and squad reinvestment would be okay, I guess.
“Mr Celtic” Tierney walked away from going for the ten and is now a crock. I wouldn’t have him back
I think your pal maybe sees the good in everyone. My youngster is an Arsenal fan so I watch most games with him, Tomiyasu got the nod at left back against Liverpool, Leeds, Southampton and Forest before picking up some injury. The Japanese lad goes through games without being noticed which is not a bad attribute for a fullback, while Tierney generally has 10 minute spells where he is a ball of chaos.
It will come as a great relief to Tierney that you are extremrly unlikely to be involved in any of the discussions if and when the possibility of him returning arises.
before your time but Danny McGrain was a Celtic full back that rejected Real Madrid
He only cost a couple of million. A lot more than a few million profit will be required.
An EPL starting full back should be expected to cost from £20m upwards when they’re an established international etc.
It seems that full backs aren’t in huge supply tbh. They command a premium.
He’s tall enough to play centre half for united …
