Celtic Summer Transfer Window 2020 & Associated Malahide Public Amenities Discussion

Yeah I think he’d be better than the general quality of wing back we’ve been linked with.

Milan want him off the books too so they could get him at a low price or a decent option on him if it’s a loan.

I think I’d be willing to take a punt on most left backs as opposed to a season of Taylor tbf. Laxalt Loyal

Are we going to sign anyone?

Harry Wilson (on loan) also linked along with Barry Douglas again.

Wilson would be a good option if we are going to go with a 4-2-3-1 otherwise it would seem a waste of money.

I saw a bit of the Liverpool game last night. Wilson must be completely shit if he can’t get in their squad.

Laxalt looking imminent based on this subtle change on the Celtic twitter page.

Celtic have signed Paulie Mallinaggi by the looks of things

This looks like a great signing.

Barkas - Duffy - Laxalt - Turnbull - Ajeti arriving
Elyounoussi returning
Edouard staying
No big departures

That’s a good squad we’ve assembled now.

Just need a manager who can play more than one formation.

Do you prefer the 3-5-2 we’ve played this season or the 4-2-3-1 we’ve also played this season?

I know you’re a huge fan of the manager, but he’s a man who’s word can’t be trusted on a document, and who is the epitome of a flat track bully. Salford city is about his level.

What a strange point.

I’m not that big a fan of the manager. I didn’t want him to get the job. I wasn’t sure he deserved it. I was at the cup final when we won the treble and he got the job afterwards and it was almost deflating.

But on balance he has done well for Celtic. A couple of bad defeats but many more highs than lows and has taken the opportunity. Winning the league comfortably, winning the league cup, cup still to be concluded but in with a great chance of a treble.

A couple of poor results in Europe and some excellent results and performances in Europe. A poor start to this season in performances but racking up the points domestically.

Your formation criticism was strange because it’s completely inaccurate. Your word on a document criticism is very odd but I’m sure you have your own backstory.

It’s a more than decent squad indeed.

Without being wanky about it, I still think Celtic lack a playing identity or philosophy under Lennon.

He utilises different formations alright, but the players don’t seem to be well trained in them.

They’re kinda expected to figure it out themselves. It usually works in the SPFL because the level of resources and talent is way above the opposition.

It gets found out by modest enough sides in Europe like Ferencvaros, Cluj, Copenhagen etc.

I don’t know lads

It’s a matter of public record if you care to look.

I think we’ve tried to play with more “control” since losing to Ferencvaros and that has made us more pedestrian. There’s more to it than simply being too conservative because the movement hasn’t been good, but we’ve definitely built it up more from the back. Some of that is down to having 3 centre backs too with nobody really pressing them.

I think we’ll be better with Edouard playing alongside Ajeti or Griffiths. We’ve been playing Edouard with #10 types who like to play in the same role he does. And he’s been in poor form. But having one of Ajeti/Griffiths (even Klamala) with Edouard/Christie/Elyounoussi will help us get more from the 3-5-2. And hopefully we’ve more of a dynamic threat on the left now to match Frimpong/Forrest on the right.

None of that is to say we’ve been unfortunate or anything. We haven’t played well and need to improve. At this point my big points are:

  • Elhamed should be last choice centre back (despite his assist at the weekend)
  • Frimpong should play as often as possible
  • Ntcham isn’t in good enough form to keep Christie or Rogic or anyone really out of the team
  • We should be capable of switching to a 4 at the back when we need to (or almost a 2 at the back with wing backs). The Elhamed/Bitton types - even Ajer - have offered us that flexibility in the past and it was something Lennon did a fair bit.
  • McGregor should be an #8 as often as possible (which is a problem because it needs Soro to be good enough to replace Brown if needed). McGregor is a very good holding midfielder but he’s our best passer of the ball and domestically we need him further up the pitch against deep defences.

I’ve absolutely no interest in doing so.

From what I have seen Celtic and rangers will be neck and neck this season.

Sevco will have to win at least 3 of the Old Firm games to have a chance
