Celtic Summer Transfers 2015

This is no longer done.

Europa League deadline is 11pm.

Marouane Chamakh?

:scream:

Lawwell fucks us again.

Ah Jesus, no.

I’m out of this thread if our only singing before 11pm is Marouane Fucking Schmuck.

I think it’s more likely that Simunovic is finally confirmed and we sign nobody else.

Do we even have a good young striker in the development squad to compete with the other three?

Stevie Frail left Celtic today too - don’t know if he was pushed or not.

I’d have assumed McMullan was the best young attacker coming through but he’s one of those Paul McGowan types we regularly produce. He’s at St Mirren for the season anyway.

Simunovic completing paperwork apparently. No more signings though.

Definitely leaves us short on strikers but would rather that than wasting wages on a non-entity. Stokes is ample cover for the SPL, replacing him with a veteran loanee or free agent injury nightmare wouldn’t have been particularly appealing.

Is this the worse Celtic strikeforce in ages or what?

Stokes is more than a wide attacker than a pure centre forward.

Common can play as a “false 9”* if needed.

  • I loathe this term.

He’d get plenty of goals for Celtic.

2009/10 we didn’t really have anyone reliable until Keane came on loan. That was the year of Fortuné and Scott McDonald was still knocking about. Griffiths is better than those, but we definitely lack cover.

Nope. He hasn’t scored that many goals anywhere. There is a general assumption about guys joining Celtic and scoring huge amounts of goals. Players can do better at Celtic than elsewhere but if you’re not a natural goalscorer (and Chamakh isn’t) then you’re not going to suddenly start firing them in when you join.

You’re forgetting this beautiful bhoy, pal:

A goal from 2009/10. We were at the home leg 1-0 defeat and watched the second leg in The 51 with @Little_Lord_Fauntleroy and his die-hard Celtic supporting work colleague who wasn’t familiar with most of the Celtic players.

First leg was a day of Drambuie if I recall correctly.

Just looking at that year’s squad: Kamara, Rasmussen, Samaras, McDonald, Keane, Fortuné, Killen all played up front that year… that’s a crazy amount of strikers to have. Sammy was good then, Keane was obviously good, the others were all shit.

Maybe I’m alone on this but I really think Rasmussen could have made it if given a chance, Lennon just didn’t like him and I know his loan spells were not fruitful but he’s had a decent goalscoring record wherever he’s been.

When Ronny joined the talk was he played 4-3-3. That can involve wingers but not really the type we have. We can’t play 4-3-3 now if we want any subs.

It’s also disappointing that it kind of rules out playing with 2 strikers very often or at all. It’s not the usual any more but we need to find ways to play a different system when we’re chasing games. Playing Commons off Griffiths is nothing like the type of attacking threat Malmo offered for example. Maybe Ciftci with Griffiths can become that but I doubt it. I think we’ll be mostly playing 1 striker and that will generally be Griffiths who is doing very well for us at the moment but we’re hugely dependent on his form and his fitness to be competitive in Europe.

I had high hopes for him. Remember him linking up play well in his first appearance. Only started 2 league games for us. Seemed to have a shit attitude in training or something but you wonder how much “due diligence” we do/did on signings if things like that become a surprise.

I agree with that and while I like Ronny, I really dislike his tactical inflexibility.

I resent the modern game for the way it has discarded strikers. Juventus were the only team in the knockout stage of the CL who played two up front if I remember correctly, the day of the strike partnerships has gone.

Yeah, I have to say I dislike this attitude on the training pitch excuse though, as long as you do it on the pitch that’s all that matters for me.

but juve had probably the strongest midfield. They were able to.
